Hayao Miyazaki/Studio Ghibli's latest film to get U.S. premiere in NY in September-October

Borys Kit, a writer for The Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision blog, posted on his Twitter account on Tuesday that Disney will release Studio Ghibli and Hayao Miyazaki's The Wind Rises anime film in North America. Kit added that Disney will announce a release date for the film later.

The European film distribution and sales company Wild Bunch and Studio Ghibli are teaming up again to offer the film in Europe, and Disney will distribute the film in France.

The Wind Rises opened in Japan on July 20. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film topped the box office charts in Japan for a sixth week in a row, earning US$3.25 million (321 million yen) in its sixth weekend for a new total of more than US$80 million (8 billion yen).

The film centers on Jirō Horikoshi (played by Evangelion director Hideaki Anno), the designer of Japan's famed Mitsubishi A6M Zero fighter plane of World War II. The film will screen at the Venice International Film Festival on September 1-2. The Toronto International Film Festival will screen the film's North American premiere in early September, and the film will make its United States debut at the 51st New York Film Festival between September 27 and October 13.
