Yellow Elephant writer Shoh Kataoka to direct film based on manga

The first 2014 issue of Shueisha's Young Jump magazine is announcing on Thursday that D-Boys member Ryōsuke Ikeoka (Prince of Tennis musical, Pole Dancing Boys) will star as protagonist Sora Andō in the live-action film adaptation of Takatoshi Nakamura's 1/11 soccer manga. Shoh Kataoka (Yellow Elephant and Miss Boys! writer) is writing and directing the film.

The manga centers on Sora, a boy who believed he had reached the limit of his talent in soccer. He planned to quit playing after middle school so he could focus on studying in high school. However, on the day of his last match, he meets Shiki Wakamiya, a girl who was his childhood friend.

Shiki was chosen as a member of Japan's women's national soccer team when she was just in middle school, and she had since been chosen to join a league in America. Shiki gives Sora some advice during his Last Game that gives him some motivation to continue playing soccer. After Sora returns home from his game, he finds out that Shiki had actually died a week earlier in a plane crash on her way to America. Sora then makes up his mind to continue playing soccer.

Nakamura launched the manga in the first issue of Shueisha's Jump SQ. 19 magazine in May 2010. The manga then moved to the main Jump Square magazine in February 2012. Shueisha published the seventh compiled manga volume last month.

Shueisha released a four-episode "vomic" (voice comic) series for the manga in February 2012. The vomic starred Satoshi Hino as Sora and Kaori Nazuka as Shiki.
