Captain Tsubasa Gets New Manga in Grand Jump

Captain Tsubasa: Rising Sun to begin later this month

The second issue of 2014 of Shueisha's Grand Jump magazine is announcing on Wednesday that Yōichi Takahashi will begin a new Captain Tsubasa manga titled Captain Tsubasa: Rising Sun in the magazine's third issue, which is scheduled to ship in Japan on December 28.

The manga will be featured on the cover of the magazine, and also have color introduction pages. Rising Sun will revolve around Tsubasa as he aims to participate in the Olympics as a representative from Japan.

The original soccer manga revolves around 11-year old Tsubasa Ōzora, a boy who loves soccer and is recognized by his coach Roberto due to his skill of the sport. Tsubasa goes with his coach to Brazil in order to train for the World Cup.

Takahashi's original Captain Tsubasa manga ran in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine from 1981 to 1988, and it inspired a television anime series. A new oneshot for the series was later published in Shonen Jump in 2008.
