Unofficial City Mascot Funasshi Gets Manga Series

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
"Pear fairy" previously named top regional mascot in Japan

Funasshi, the unofficial mascot of Funabashi City, Chiba, launched her own manga series in the February issue of Shogakukan's Bessatsu CoroCoro Comic Special magazine on December 28. The magazine posted a preview of the gag comedy manga online.

Hyahhaa dayo Funasshi is drawn by Maeda-kun and is one of many projects based on the character. The "pear fairy" is inspired by Funabashi's major fruit export and has her own theme song released by Universal Music Japan. The character was also voted the top mascot in the Regional Mascot General Election in August despite its lack of official endorsement by the city of Funabashi or any tourism organization.
