Girl Band Scandal Performs Pokemon XY Film's Theme Song

posted on by Egan Loo
All 4 members grew up in the Pokémon generation

The four-member girl band SCANDAL (Bleach, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood) is contributing their new song "Yoake no Ryūsei-gun" (Daybreak Meteor Shower) as the theme song of Pokémon the Movie: Diancie and the Cocoon of Destruction (Pocket Monster XY: Hakai no Mayu).

All the members of the band are part of the Pokémon generation, and 25-year-old vocalist Haruna said, "When I heard that we were given the opportunity to contribute the theme, I was so thrilled I felt like flying." The first game that 22-year-old drummer Rina ever received was a Pokémon game. The first movie that both she and 23-year-old guitarist Mami saw in theaters was a Pokémon movie. 23-year-old bass guitarist Tomomi co-wrote the song's lyrics with singer-songwriter Hidenori Tanaka, and Seiji Kameda produced the song.

The film will open on July 19, and the song's CD single will go on sale on July 16.

The Pokémon Company describes the story:

In the underground Diamond Domain, where many Carbink live, the Mythical Pokémon Diancie serves as ruler. The Heart Diamond that sustains the land is beginning to fall apart, and Diancie is not yet strong enough to create a new one. While seeking help from the Legendary Pokémon Xerneas, Diancie encounters a group of thieves who want to take control of its diamond-producing power—and who awaken the Legendary Pokémon Yveltal from its cocoon in the process! Can Ash and his friends help Diancie discover its true power, stop Yveltal's rampage, and save the Diamond Domain?

Pokémon the Movie: Diancie and the Cocoon of Destruction will play alongside the short film, Pikachu, What's This Key For?, which introduces four Pokémon. The Pokémon Company International already debuted an English-dubbed trailer.
