Anime Screenings at Japan Foundation in August

Screenings of Barefoot Gen, plus Crayon Shinchan and Chibi Maruko-chan films.

The Japan Foundation in Russell Square, London (map), has announced several film screenings in August, including the following anime:

Saturday August 9, 6.30 p.m: Barefoot Gen, directed by Mori Masaki, based on Keiji Nakazawa's classic manga about the A-bombing of Hiroshima. The screening is followed by a talk with Nick Walker.

Friday August 15, 2 p.m: Crayon Shin-chan: Arashi o Yobu Appare! Sengoku Daikassen (Crayon Shin-chan: The Battle of the Warring States, 2002), pictured right, directed by Keiichi Hara.

Friday August 22, 2 p.m: Chibi Maruko-chan: Watashi no Suki na Uta, directed by Tsutomu Shibayama, about a nine-year old schoolgirl. This screening is introduced by Helen McCarthy.

According to The Japan Foundation site, "These screenings are free to attend but booking is essential. To reserve a place, please email your name. and the screening you would like to attend to [email protected] Places are very limited (limited to 80 people per screening) – so book now to avoid disappointment. Please note that it is only possible to book a maximum of four screenings per attendee. Any additional bookings will be placed on a reserve list. When booking for more than two screenings, please advise which screening you would like to prioritise."
