Angry Birds App Gets 1st Manga in Nakayoshi Shōjo Magazine

Angry Birds, the smartphone game app franchise that boasts 2.3 billion downloads worldwide, inspired its first manga on Wednesday. Hiyoko Hatano launched the Stella ~Nana to Mahō no Eitango~ (Stella: Nana and the Magic English Words) series in the October issue of Kodansha's shōjo magazine Nakayoshi on Wednesday. The short stories star Stella, a pink bird character from the Angry Birds apps, and a Japanese girl named Nana.
In the manga, Nana ends up transferring to an overseas school after her parents are reassigned to another country. Since she can hardly speak any English, she cannot make any friends and is always alone. One day, she meets a spirited pink bird named Stella at the school's botanical garden. Stella tells her to collect mysterious English word cards to save the school.
Tatsuya Kimura, the teacher behind many bestselling English learning books such as Yume o Kanaeru Eitango Yumetan, is supervising the manga. Every month, Nakayoshi is running a one-page lesson on English vocabulary. Each manga chapter will teach one English word that would be useful to people in similar situations as Nana.
Not coincidentally, Angry Birds Stella, the app franchise's latest title with upgraded features, is also debuting worldwide this month.
