Giovanni's Island U.K. Release Details

Anime Limited has announced its release plans for the Production I.G period postwar drama Giovanni's Island. Anime Limited has also released the above trailer on youtube.

- In cinemas: The film will be shown twice during the London Film Festival at the BFI Southbank: on Friday October 10 at 6.15 p.m. and again on Saturday October 11 at 1 p.m. Tickets will be available here to the public from September 18 at 10 a.m.

The film is also due to be shown in both the GLASGOW and Edinburgh legs of the Scotland Loves Anime festival in October. The GLASGOW date is already confirmed as Sunday October 12 (tickets here), screening at 5.30 p.m. in the GLASGOW Film Theatre. The GLASGOW screening will be followed by a Q&A with the film's director, Mizuho Nishikubo.

- Anime Limited will also release the film in three editions: a Collectors Edition, a Blu-ray and a DVD. All three versions will feature 55 minutes of extras including a Making Of (38 mins),a Digital Art Gallery, an interview with the Russian voice of the film character Tanya and a deleted music clip.

The Collector's Edition will additionally contain a 76-page softbook book on the film, covering the film's production and artwork. It will be limited to 1000 copies and its SRP will be £54.99. It is scheduled for release sometime in winter 2014/15.

The Blu-ray will have an SRP of £19.99, while the DVD will have an SRP of £14.99. Both are due on January 26 2015.

Production I.G's Annecy-winning hand-animated Giovanni's Island film tells the story of two brothers living on the island of Shikotan. Their family and the people of the island hear of Japan's loss in the war and are told not to worry. However, their island gets caught in the middle of the continuing conflict in the west and is invaded by Russian soldiers. Giovanni's Island received the Satoshi Kon Prize for Excellence in Animation and tied for the Audience Award at the 18th annual Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal.
