Crunchyroll Adds Taiwanese/Japanese CG Series Karen Senki

Sakura Wars creators' sci-fi action series to begin streaming on September 27

Media service Crunchyroll announced on Friday that it will stream the Taiwanese and Japanese CG animated series Karen Senki. Streaming will begin for premium members on September 27 at 11:00 a.m. EDT. Free members will be able to watch episodes one week later.

Crunchyroll will host a premiere event at the Anime Weekend Atlanta convention in Atlanta, Georgia on September 27. The event will screen the series' first two episodes and host a question and answer session with Karen Senki creator Ouji Hiroi.

Hiroi and Kousuke Fujishima are developing Karen Senki as their second joint work. Fujishima designed the characters for Hiroi's original Sakura Taisen (Sakura Wars) manga.

Crunchyroll describes the new series' story:

In the post-apocalyptic aftermath of a war between machines and their creators, machines rule while humans exist in a state of servitude. Titular character Karen leads Resistance Group 11, an eclectic group of humans who find themselves fighting for their lives as they are hunted by the robots in each episode. Is this the end of humanity? Are they fighting a losing battle?

Through Karen, we delve into a struggle between right and wrong, between indifference and love that explores some of the deepest questions about humanity. What is the difference between a thinking machine and a human being? What is a soul?

Anime Weekend Atlanta will be held at the Renaissance Atlanta Waverly Hotel, Cobb Galleria Centre, and Sheraton Suites Galleria from September 26 to September 28.
