More Anime at Leeds in November

Full line-up announced, with screenings including Wings of Honneamise, second live-action Rurouni Kenshin and documentary feature on Studio Ghibli.

The 28th Leeds International Film Festival has now announced its full line-up, with more details on tickets and passes available here. As previously reported, the festival will include the "Fanomenon Anime Day 2014" on Sunday November 9, but there will also be numerous other anime and manga-related screenings through November. Here's the full list:

Sunday November 9 - Fanomenon Anime Day at Leeds Town Hall (Victoria Hall). The line-up is confimed as:

11 a.m. - Appleseed Alpha

1 p.m. Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods

2.45 p.m. - Short Peace (pictured)

4.15 p.m - Giovanni's Island.

6.45 p.m. - Ghost in the Shell (original cinema film)

8.45 p.m. - Grave of the Fireflies (new digital print)

On the same day (but not part of the Fanemon Anime Day screenings), there will also be a screening at the Hyde Park Picturehouse at 5 p.m., called 'Propaganda Toons!' According to UK Anime News, this will include a screening of the Japanese 1943 cartoon featurette Momotaro's Sea Eagles.

Monday November 10 - A 90-minute screening at Everyman Leeds Trinity at 7 p.m., entitled 'Cat Soup to Space Dandy: The Animation of Masaaki Yuasa.' The screening is described as follows: 'The selection includes cult anime short Cat Soup, for which Yuasa was animation director, about a young feline who goes on a psychedelic journey with his sister in order to save her soul. Yuasa's pro-wrestling short Kick- Heart is included alongside one episode each from his own series The Tatami Galaxy and Space Dandy.'

Tuesday November 11

There will be a 3 p.m. repeat of the Masaaki Yuasa screenings above, also at Everyman Leeds Trinity.

There will also be two live-action manga adaptations at Vue in the Light: a 6 p.m. screening of Tokyo Tribe, followed by an 8.30 p.m. screening of Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno (Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Taika-hen).

Wednesday November 12

4 p.m. screening of Giovanni's Island at Vue in the Light.

Thursday November 13

There will be two live-action manga adaptations screening at Vue in the Light: a 1 p.m. screening of Tokyo Tribe, followed by an 3.30 p.m. screening of Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno (Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Taika-hen). Both films are repeated from Tuesday.

Friday November 14

Leeds Town Hall will present a 1.30 p.m. screening of a new digital print of Grave of the Fireflies. This will be followed at 3.30 p.m. by the feature-length live-action documentary about Studio Ghibli, The Kingdom of Dreams and Madness, focusing particularly on the production of Hayao Miyazaki's The Wind Rises.

Saturday November 15

8.30 p.m (until late) - Fanomenon & Thought Bubble Anime Party: Interstella 5555. This event takes place in Leeds Town Hall, with tickets at £10. According to the event description, 'Daft Punk's Interstella 5555 gets the party underway, then DJs take over for the rest of the night, playing great electro and indie anthems accompanied by anime favourites on the giant screen.'

Sunday November 16 -

Cottage Road Cinema will present a 12.30 p.m. screening of an English-subbed 35mm print of Nausicaa of the Valley of Wind. This will be followed at 3 p.m. by the feature-length live-action documentary about Studio Ghibli, The Kingdom of Dreams and Madness. (The latter is also shown on Friday 14, above).

Also on Sunday November 15, Vue in the Light will show the Studio Gainax classic Wings of Honneamise at 8.30 p.m., in a new digital print.

Monday November 17th

Vue in the Light will show Wings of Honneamise again at 1 p.m.
