Seishi Kishimoto's Sukedachi 9 Manga Gets Spinoff Stories

O-Parts Hunter author launched series about police that assist with revenge this week

Seishi Kishimoto launched his Sukedachi Nine (Assist Nine) manga in Square Enix's free online web magazine Gangan Online and Monthly Shonen Gangan on Thursday along with the announcement that the series will get two side-stories. Monthly Shonen Gangan will publish a chapter that follows Kōta Kiyodera (pictured left), while Gangan Online will publish a chapter that follows Ryōko Koizumi (pictured right). The main manga series will star Yūji Yamanishi.

Gangan Online posted a promotional video that describes the story and introduces characters:

In the Edo era, revenge was allowed in one-on-one duels. In 2015, a huge rise in murder incidents has prompted the government to reenact the "revenge penalty," which states that a killer may be executed in the same manner as their victim. Because one-on-one battles are dangerous, a special execution team is formed to protect the general populace and assist (sukedachi) with revenge. The members of this team are called the "Sukedachinin" (Assist People).

The characters introduced in the video are:

  • Kamui Oda, No. 0.
  • Kōta Kiyodera, No. 9
  • Ryōko Koizumi, No. 8
  • Yūji Yamanishi, No. 7

Kishimoto previously wrote the action fantasy manga Kurenai no Ōkami to Ashikase no Hitsuji (The Crimson Wolf and the Trapped Sheep) and the fighting manga Blazer Drive. Kishimoto serialized his adventure series O-Parts Hunter (666 Satan) in Shonen Gangan from 2001 until 2007 and Viz Media published all 19 volumes of the manga between 2006 and 2009. Kishimoto grew up drawing manga with his older brother Masashi, which is the main reason why his artwork looks similar to his more famous brother's Naruto manga.
