posted on by Egan Loo

Rakuen Tsuihō - Expelled from Paradise, the anime film by director Seiji Mizushima, writer Gen Urobuchi, and the studios Toei Animation and Graphinica, opened on 13 Japanese theaters on Saturday. In two days, it sold 17,274 tickets, enough to rank #9 for the weekend. It earned 29,194,600 yen (about US$250,000). The theaters held advance sales of the movie's limited Blu-ray Disc edition, but they sold out within two days.

The movie's main theater, Tokyo's Shinjuku Wald 9, sold out all of its showings on Saturday except for the late-night screenings. Its first weekend numbers were higher than those of similar movies from distributor T-Joy with about 10 theaters: HK/Hentai Kamen sold 10,117 tickets for 16,280,000 yen in 13 theaters, and Ghost in the Shell S.A.C. Solid State Society 3D sold 11,423 tickets for 22,660,000 yen in nine theaters.
