Oda's Psychic Detective Yakumo Manga Goes on Indefinite Hiatus

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
Artist Suzuka Oda takes maternity leave starting this month

The June issue of Kadokawa's Monthly Asuka magazine will announce on Friday that Suzuka Oda's Psychic Detective Yakumo manga will go on an indefinite hiatus beginning this month due to the artist going on maternity leave.

In the announcement, Oda writes that she will continue to check the her health constantly so that she can get back to working on the manga as soon as possible.

The manga's story follows Yakumo, a young man who can see the spirits of dead people with his red eyes. He uses this ability as a gift to solve murder cases, and is assisted by his classmate Haruka.

Oda launched the manga in Monthly Asuka in 2009. Kadokawa published the manga's 12th compiled book volume last September.

The Psychic Detective Yakumo manga adapts Manabu Kaminaga's novel series of the same name. Since 2004, Kaminaga has written eight main volumes and one side story volume in this series. The story has already been adapted into a 2006 live-action television drama series and two manga series. Ritsu Miyako drew one manga series in Hakusensha's Bessatsu Hana to Yume magazine for women from 2007 to 2008, and two book volumes have since been compiled. The novel series was also adapted into a TV anime in 2010. Sentai Filmworks acquired the title in 2013, and released it on DVD in April of the same year, and on Blu-ray in September last year.
