Crunchyroll Adds Inuyashiki Manga by Gantz Creator

Media service Crunchyroll announced on Monday that is offering the Inuyashiki manga by Hiroya Oku (Gantz, HEN). The manga is available worldwide except in Japan, Algeria, Lebanon, Belgium, France, Germany, Luxembourg, Poland, Morocco, South Korea, and Switzerland. All current chapters of the manga are available now, with future chapters debuting every other week.

Ichiro Inuyashiki is down on his luck. While only 58 years old, his geriatric looks often have him written off as a pathetic old man by the world around him and he's constantly ignored and disrespected by his family despite all that he's done to support them. On top of everything else, his doctor has revealed that he has cancer and it appears that he has little time left in this world. But just when it seems things couldn't get any worse, a blinding light in the night sky strikes the earth where Ichiro stands. He later wakes up to find himself unscathed, but he soon starts to notice that there's something…different about himself.

Oku launched the manga in Kodansha's Evening magazine in January 2014, and Kodansha published the third compiled book volume on February 23. Oku plans to continue the manga until it ends in 10 volumes, even though he estimates that each volume would have to sell 190,000 copies for him to turn a profit. Kodansha Comics USA licensed the manga last October, and will publish the first volume in North America on August 25.

Oku launched his Gantz manga in Young Jump in 2000. The "Final Phase" of Gantz began in 2009, and the manga ended in 2013 with 37 compiled volumes published. Gantz inspired a television anime series animated by Gonzo and released by ADV Films in North America. NEW PEOPLE Entertainment released the two live-action film adaptations in North America. Dark Horse Comics will publish the 26th English volume of the manga in North America in August.
