Quick Reminder: Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F' in Australian Cinemas Now

As part of Madman Entertainment's Reel Anime theatrical runs, Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F' has started screening in theaters across Australia and New Zealand for two weeks until the 19th of August 2015. Over 60 theatres across Australia including Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Hobart, Western Australia, The Australian Capital Territory and Northern Territory will be showing the film and a additional 17 theaters in New Zealand will also be screening. Screenings are usually in 2D with the Funimation English Dub but select cinemas will be screening the English Dub in 3D and a very small amount will be screening the Japanese sub in 2D.

In breaking news, the Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F' American premiere has raked in $1.97 Million USD on opening night to be the #6 in box office gross on August 4th and the eighth highest anime film opening of all time in the United States. For comparison the previous Dragon Ball film, Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, earned US$2.2 million after its first two days in the U.S.

In Japan, Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F' earned approximately 1.29 billion yen (about US$10.9 million) in its first six days, and sold over 1 million tickets in its first seven days at the Japanese box office. The film later reported 2.35 million tickets sold for a total of 3.1 billion yen (about US$26 million).

Original manga creator Akira Toriyama is personally credited with the original concept, screenplay, and character designs of the film, and Dragon Ball Z animation director Tadayoshi Yamamuro directed the film. Pop idol group Momoiro Clover Z (Sailor Moon Crystal, Bodacious Space Pirates) performed the film's theme song, and also voiced roles in the movie, playing "angels" of hell that reside where the protagonist Son Goku's enemy Frieza has been imprisoned.

Toriyama said in an interview in November that the 'F' in the film's title stands for "Frieza," who is revived in the film. Toriyama noted that he thought of the title while listening to "F" by rock band Maximum The Hormone, whom he came to know personally through a friend. The song itself features Frieza as a motif, and is used as a "battle song" during one of the battle scenes in the film. The band originally released the song as its eighth single in July 2008. The pop idol group Momoiro Clover Z went back and recorded an English version of "'Z' no Chikai" (The Oath of "Z"), the ending theme song for this year's Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F' film.

Toriyama's original 1984-1995 Dragon Ball manga has been translated for 24 countries, and it has over 230 million copies in print.
