Game featuring original summer vacation story shipped in Japan on Thursday

The official website for the Girl Friend BETA: Kimi to Sogosu Natsu Yasumi (Girl Friend BETA: The Summer Vacation I'm Spending With You) PlayStation Vita game began streaming the game's opening movie and a new TV ad on Friday.

Bandai Namco Entertainment had planned to release the game on August 20, but delayed the release date until November 19.

The adventure game features an original story that takes place during summer vacation. Characters in the game include:

The first edition of the game includes two cards with a serial code for a yukata for the characters Kokomi Shiina and Fumio Murakami in the original smartphone game. The original package edition and the downloadable edition both retail for 6,640 yen (about US$56).

The special limited edition "Natsu no Madonna Hitorijime BOX" (Summer's Madonna Monopoly BOX) includes: an illustrated box by QP:flapper, eight visual posters, a Blu-ray Disc with original bonus footage, eight different covers for the PS Vita box each featuring a different girl, a special booklet, a product code for a custom PS Vita theme, eight cards with original illustrations and serial codes to use in the original smartphone game, and the PS Vita game itself. The limited edition retails for 9,980 yen (US$84).

Cyber Agent's blogging website Ameba started service for the original Girl Friend BETA dating simulation game for smartphones in 2012, and the number of registered users has passed 6.5 million. The game features more than 100 girls for the player to date, each voiced by a different voice actress.

The game is also inspiring a 3D rhythm game titled Girl Friend (♪ ※ ) (read as "onpu"), which is slated for this year.

A television anime adaptation premiered last October and Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired.
