Takuya Inoue, Yoshihiro Nakayama star in play running in Osaka in April

Watanabe Entertainment's Gekidan Patch (Patch Stage Troupe) announced on Monday that it is handling the stage play adaptation of Ryō Nakama's Isobe Isobee Monogatari ~Ukiyo wa Tsurai yo~ (Chronicle of Isobe -The Life Is Hard-) manga.

The play will star:

Takuya Inoue as Isobee Isobe

Yoshihiro Nakayama as Mother

Kenichi Suemitsu (K, Tōken Ranbu stage plays) is writing the scripts and directing the play, and Shunsuke Wada (Persona 4, Seraph of the End, Haikyu!! stage plays) is in charge of the music.

The play, whose full title is Ukiyo Gigen Kageki "Isobe Isobee Monogatari ~Ukiyo wa Tsurai yo~" Takaozan Jigoku Shūgyō-hen (Fleeting Life Nonsense Opera "Chronicle of Isobe -The Life Is Hard-" Mt. Takao Hell Studying Volume), will run at Osaka's ABC Hall for 10 performances from April 20-26. Tickets go on sale on December 4 and cost 6,500 yen (about US$53) in advance and 7,000 yen (US$57) at the door.

Nakama originally published the manga as a one-shot, then he launched the serialized version of the manga in Weekly Shonen Jump in October 2013. Shueisha describes the manga as follows:

A loser samurai—Isobee, who lives in any way a dawdling, slacking life, takes action (sort of) in the city of Edo. Weekly Shonen Jump's gone mad with a new style Ukiyoe Gag Manga!!

Shueisha published the manga's eighth compiled volume (pictured at left) on October 3.

The series inspired a four-episode series of online Flash anime shorts that premiered in December 2013. A new "mame anime" (bean anime) of 30-second shorts starring Daiki Yamashita as Isobee Isobe is also in development.
