'Momoiro Clover Z vs. KISS' Music Video Collaboration Wins MTV Japan Award

Masatsugu Nagazoe directed collaboration video with Sushio animation wins "Best Collaboration"

The 2015 MTV Video Music Awards Japan awarded the music video of the song "Yume no Ukiyo ni Saitemina" — the collaboration song between idol group Momoiro Clover Z (Sailor Moon Crystal, Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F') and American rock band KISS — in the "Best Collaboration" category on Tuesday.

Masatsugu Nagazoe (Momoiro Clover Z's "GOUNN" video) directed the video and Sushio (Kill la Kill) handled the animation. Paul Stanley and Greg Collins composed the song and Yuho Iwasato wrote the lyrics. Momoiro Clover Z performed the song with KISS providing background vocals and instruments.

Other videos nominated for the award include Basement Jaxx and Team Syachihoko's "Back2 the Wild," MAN WITH A MISSION and Zebrahead's "Out of Control," Owl City and SEKAI NO OWARI's "Tokyo," and Flower and Little Mix's "Dreamin' Together."

King Records released the "Yume no Ukiyo ni Saitemina" single on January 28, and it is available in two variant covers (seen right and below left). KISS also released their own new song as part of the collaboration, titled "Samurai Son," on the band's "Best of KISS 40" CD along with the KISS version of the "Momoiro Clover Z Vs. Kiss" single. KISS launched their 40th anniversary tour with Momoiro Clover Z this year, performing with the band at their last stop at the Tokyo Dome.

Momoiro Clover Z performed at this year's Anime Expo in July, with KISS founding members Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons making an appearance.

Momoiro Clover Z previously sang theme songs for Sailor Moon Crystal, Bodacious Space Pirates, Joshiraku, and Pokémon: Black and White. (When the group had six members instead of five, they sang themes for In Solitude Where We Are Least Alone and Dragon Crisis! under their original name Momoiro Clover.) The idols not only sang the theme song for this year's Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F' film, but also recorded the song in English and voiced characters in the film.
