Star Wars' Daisy Ridley Talks About Ghibli's Only Yesterday Role

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
Ridley plays Taeko in English dub of Isao Takahata film premiering in N. America in February

Entertainment Weekly posted a video interview with actress Daisy Ridley (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) discussing her character Taeko in the upcoming English dub of and Studio Ghibli and Isao Takahata's Only Yesterday (Omohide Poro Poro) anime film on Monday.

GKIDS will screen the film in the IFC Center in New York on January 1, before expanding the theatrical release nationwide on February 26.

The film originally premiered in Japan in 1991. GKIDS' theatrical release will correspond with the film's 25th anniversary. It has not previously been released in North America.

Aside from Ridley, the film's English dub cast includes Dev Patel (Slumdog Millionaire), Ashley Eckstein (Star Wars: The Clone Wars), and Alison Fernandez (Law & Order: SVU).

Only Yesterday centers on Taeko Okajima, a big city "office lady" who returns to the countryside to visit the family of her brother-in-law. The film intersperses Taeko's memories of events in her childhood with her working the fields and getting to know her brother-in-law's family in the present day.

In addition to the theatrical rights, GKIDS has also licensed the non-theatrical, home video, and television rights for the film.
