Hiru no Sentozake Manga About Sake Bars, Public Baths Gets Live-Action Show

Shigeyuki Totsugi stars in April show of Masayuki Kusumi's manga

A live-action drama of Masayuki Kusumi and Haruki Izumi's Hiru no Sentozake manga has been green-lit. The show will premiere on TV Tokyo on April 9 at 12:00 a.m., with 20-minute episodes. Shigeyuki Totsugi (seen below) will star in the drama's lead role.

The manga centers on a man who visits public baths and sake bars in the afternoon, enjoying drinks after taking baths. Kusumi and Izumi released the original manga (pictured below right) in 2011.

The cast of the series includes:

  • Shigeyuki Totsugi as Takayuki Utsumi, a businessman who sneaks away from work in the afternoon to visit baths and sake bars
  • Akiko Yagi as Shōko Dōzono, Utsumi's boss at work
  • Tokio Emoto as Daisuke Ōnishi, Utsumi's co-worker
  • Aika Hirota as Sanae Endō (seen below), an co-worker from general affairs

Series' director Yuki Saitō and scriptwriter Yoshihiro Taguchi both previously worked on the live-action television series adaptation of another Kusumi manga, Kodoku no Gourmet, although the two did not work together on the series. Saitō directed the third and fourth season, while Taguchi wrote the scripts for the first season.

The live-action adaptation of Masayuki Kusumi's and Jiro Taniguchi's Kodoku no Gourmet manga just finished airing its fifth season last December. Publisher Fusosha published the second volume of the manga last September, after an 18-year hiatus.
