Titan Comics Licenses Assassin's Creed 4 Manga by Welcome to the N.H.K.'s Oiwa

Manga launched in 2013, ended in 2014 with 2 volumes

Titan Comics announced during Comic-Con International this past week that it has licensed Takashi Yano and Kendi Oiwa's Assassin's Creed: Awakening (Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag -Kakusei-) manga, an adaptation of Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag game. Titan Comics has not revealed a release date for the manga in North America.

The manga takes place in the Golden Age of Pirates — the 18th century in the Caribbean Sea. The original story follow Edward Kenway as he gets entangled in the ongoing battle between the Templars and the Assassins. Kenway is the protagonist of the game. The manga's story features some differences from the game, which includes a character named Yanao Seijin, the modern day descendant of Kenway who accesses his ancestral memories to relive the 18th century story. In the game, the character remains unnamed.

Ubisoft released the game for the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and Wii U consoles and on the PC in North America in October 2013.

Yano and Oiwa launched the manga in Shueisha's now-defunct Jump X (read as Jump Kai) magazine in August 2013, and ended it in August 2014. Shueisha released two compiled book volumes for the series.

Oiwa previously adapted Tatsuhiko Takimoto's Welcome to the N.H.K. novel into manga format in 2004. Tokyopop released the manga in North America in 2006-2008. Tokyopop also released Oiwa's one-volume Goth manga based on Otsuichi's novel in 2008.

Titan Comics has previously released other comics based on the Assassin's Creed franchise, including Assassin's Creed: Assassins, Assassin's Creed: Templars and Assassin's Creed: Last Descendants: Locus.
