50 puzzles will appear in 10 countries; 1st puzzle debuted on Tuesday in Tokyo

Level 5 announced on Tuesday that it is collaborating with "Real Escape Game" maker SCRAP to launch a global promotion campaign for the Layton's Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires' Conspiracy game titled "LAYTON'S MYSTERY JOURNEY: REAL WORLD PUZZLE SOLVING."

The campaign challenges fans to solve 50 puzzles that will appear online and in major cities in 10 countries. These cities include New York City, San Francisco, London, Paris, Madrid, Berlin, Sydney, Seoul, and Tokyo. The campaign will be held from June 20 to September 21. Player can access the campaign's official website to begin.

Pikotarō, the comedian best known for his bizarre viral music video "PPAP (Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen)," launched the first puzzle for Tokyo on Tuesday with a video.

The second puzzle will debut on Friday in Shibuya. The third puzzle will debut in San Francisco on June 30 at "a popular spot where tourists take pictures of the gorgeous Golden Gate."

The global campaign will offer a "Translayton" feature that will use Google Translate to allow players worldwide to communicate and collaborate on puzzles.

Level 5 will release the Layton's Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires' Conspiracy game on iOS and Android devices worldwide on July 20. It will release the game on the Nintendo 3DS in the West early this fall, and on July 20 in Japan. The game will be available in eight languages: Japanese, English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Dutch, and Korean.

In the game, Katrielle Layton is the daughter of Professor Hershel Layton. The story is set in London, where she will solve any incident, from missing cats to murder cases. Her initial purpose, however, was to look for her father, who has disappeared. The game was originally titled Lady Layton: Fugō-ō Ariadne no Inbō (Lady Layton: Millionaire King Ariadne's Conspiracy).

In Japan, the smartphone version will retail for 1,900 yen (about US$17.50), and some in-game items will cost extra. Level-5 stressed that players can still play to the ending of the game without buying any extra items. The Nintendo 3DS version of the game will also be available in Japan digitally and physically. The game will retail for 4,800 yen (US$44).

Kuniaki Iwanami is designing the game's puzzles, replacing late puzzle master Akira Tago. Kana Nishino will perform theme song.
