posted on by Andrew Osmond
New releases from Manga Entertainment and MVM

On Monday July 17, Manga Entertainment will release One-Punch Man on both Blu-ray and DVD, carrying 12 TV episodes and six OAV episodes. This title include interviews with the Director, Character Designer, US and Japanese Voice Cast and the band JAM Project (which performed the opening song, 'The Hero'). The Blu-ray edition will also contain an 84-page booklet.

Based on the manga by ONE (story) and Yūsuke Murata (art), the series revolves around the titular super hero (played by Makoto Furukawa) who has trained so hard that his hair has fallen out, and who can overcome any enemy with one punch. However because he is so strong, he has become bored and frustrated with winning all his battles so easily.

Shingo Natsume (Space Dandy, Fullmetal Alchemist: The Sacred Star of Milos) directed the anime at Madhouse (Summer Wars, Hunter X Hunter), and Tomohiro Suzuki (Tiger & Bunny scripts, Saint Seiya: Legend of Sanctuary) was in charge of the series scripts. Makoto Miyazaki (Dragon Crisis!, Triage X) composed the music. Chikashi Kubota (From the New World, Robotics;Notes) was both character designer and chief animation director.

MVM will release the first volume of God Eater, carrying the first seven episodes of the series, on both Blu-ray and DVD.

Anime Consortium Japan (ACJ) describes the series as follows:

The Far East, 2071. The domain of the mad gods. In the early 2050s, unknown life forms called “Oracle cells” begin their uncontrolled consumption of all life on Earth. Their ravenous appetite and remarkable adaptability earn them first dread, then awe, and finally the name “aragami”. In the face of an enemy completely immune to conventional weapons, urban civilization collapses, and each day humanity is driven further and further toward extinction.

One single ray of hope remains for humanity. Following the development of “God Arcs”—living weapons which incorporate Oracle cells—their wielders are organized into an elite force. In a world ravaged by mad gods, these “God Eaters” fight a desperate war...
