Paranormal Activity 3, 4 Directors in 'Final Negotations' to Direct Mega Man Film

Film news source The Hollywood Reporter revealed on Wednesday that directors Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman are in "final negotiations" to write and direct 20th Century Fox and Chernin Entertainment's planned film project based on CAPCOM's Mega Man franchise.
According to the report, 20th Century Fox acquired the film rights earlier this year. Chernin Entertainment and Masi Oka, the producer for Netflix's Death Note film, are producing the project.
Joost and Schulman directed the Catfish documentary, as well as the Paranormal Activity 3 and Paranormal Activity 4 films.
Chernin Entertainment is an entertainment company owned by Peter Chernin's The Chernin Group, who own a majority stake in the media distribution site Crunchyroll.
The Mega Man franchise (known as Rockman in Japan) began in 1987 with CAPCOM's release of the firs Mega Man game on the Nintendo Famicom. The franchise has since spawned numerous games, with the latest in the main series, Mega Man 10, released in 2010. The game franchise has also spawned multiple manga and anime series and OVAs, as well as a Japanese-American animated TV series (seen left). ADV Films released the Megaman: Upon a Star OVA in 2005. Viz Media released Ryo Takamisaki's MegaMan NT Warrior (Rockman.EXE) manga from 2004 to 2008, and also licensed the first two seasons of the anime adaptation, which aired on the Kids WB programming block. Discotek Media released the 1994 Japanese-American animated television series Mega Man in 2014. Viz Media also licensed the Megaman Star Force anime and began streaming it on its Neon Alley service in April.
A new animated television series is in the works, and will premiere on Cartoon Network in 2018 or later. Dentsu Entertainment USA and DHX Media are developing, co-producing, distributing, and jointly managing the licensing for the new series. Man of Action Entertainment is also developing the series for a planned 26 episodes.
