Japanese Online Game Publisher Gamepot Goes Defunct

posted on by Karen Ressler
Online game platform launched in 2001

GMO Internet announced on Monday that it will absorb and dissolve its GMO Gamepot, GMO GameCenter, and Syncloud subsidiaries on December 1. The company noted that it is reorganizing to streamline development of mobile and online games.

Gamepot launched in 2001 as an online game platform. It has changed ownership multiple times since its launch, and acquired its current name when it was acquired by the GMO Group in 2013. Its publications include the South Korean PC game Skatto Golf Pangya, which it announced in August would end service after 13 years on November 10.

Gamepot had a United States publishing division that opened in Los Angeles in 2008, but its website is no longer active.

GMO GameCenter and Syncloud both focus on smartphone games. GameCenter operates the G-Gee online smartphone game platform.
