This year's sixth issue of Kodansha's Morning magazine announced on Thursday that Yoshihiro Yamada's Hyouge Mono manga will get a live-action adaptation. Planning for the project is in progress.
The manga centers on Furuta Sasuke (Furuta Oribe), a vassal of the great warlord Oda Nobunaga and a man obsessed with tea ceremony and material desires in his pursuit of a fortuitous life. Having learned from Oda and the legendary tea master Sen no Sōeki, Furuta walks the way of the "Hyouge Mono."
Yamada launched the manga in Morning in 2005, and the series ended on November 30. Kodansha published the manga's 24th compiled book volume on June 23, and the 25th volume will ship on January 23. The manga inspired a television anime adaptation in 2011.
The manga won the Grand Prize in the 14th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prizes in 2010. The series also earned an Excellence Prize in the 13th Japan Media Arts Festival Awards in 2009.
