Maido! Urayasu Tekkin Kazoku Manga Ends, Gets New Series (Updated)

Creator Hamaoka to also launch new, unrelated manga

This year's 10th issue of Akita Shoten's Weekly Shōnen Champion magazine announced on Thursday that Kenji Hamaoka's comedy manga Maido! Urayasu Tekkin Kazoku will end, but announced that Hamaoka will renew the manga under a new title in the 16th issue on March 15. In addition, Hamaoka will launch a new, unrelated series this spring in Bessatsu Shōnen Champion. Both new manga will celebrate the Urayasu Tekkin Kazoku manga series' 25th anniversary.

The renewal manga is not yet titled, and Hamaoka and the magazine are accepting title suggestions, with the sender of the selected submission winning a prize. The title will be announced when the manga launches.

The previous issue of the magazine hinted at a "big announcement" for Maido! Urayasu Tekkin Kazoku.

The slapstick gag comedy follows a second-grade boy named Kotetsu Ōsawagi and his misadventures with his family and friends in Urayasu City, near Tokyo.

Hamaoka launched the original Urayasu Tekkin Kazoku (Super Radical Gag Family) manga in Weekly Shōnen Champion in 1993. The 31-volume manga spawned two sequels: the 28-volume Ganso! Urayasu Tekkin Kazoku from 2002 to 2010, and the current Maido! Urayasu Tekkin Kazoku, which began in 2010. Akita Shoten published the 22nd compiled book volume of Maido! Urayasu Tekkin Kazoku last October.

The original Super Radical Gag Family manga inspired a 33-episode television anime 20 years ago in 1998. Akitarō Daichi (Fruits Basket, Kodocha, Now and Then, Here and There) directed the anime at Studio DEEN. Maido! Urayasu Tekkin Kazoku also inspired a television anime adaptation in 2014, and Daichi again directed the series.

Update on February 20, 2018: While this article previously stated that the manga ended in the 10th issue on February 1, the manga is actually ending in the 14th issue on March 1.
