Watamote Manga Co-Creator Breaks Left Arm in Bicycle Accident

Draft writer/artist continues work, may need surgery

The official Twitter account for Watashi ga Motenai no wa Dou Kangaete mo Omaera ga Warui! (No Matter How I Look at It, It's You Guys' Fault I'm Not Popular! or WATAMOTE) manga creator duo Nico Tanigawa revealed on Thursday that the duo's story creator broke his left arm in a bicycle accident on Tuesday. He said that the pain is not as severe as previous broken bones, but there is a possibility he may need surgery due to a bone shift. He noted that he will go to a major hospital on Friday.

The creator later apologized for worrying fans. He thinks their manga will not go on hiatus due to the injury, but acknowledged that it is possible. He added that he attended Kadokawa's New Year's party on Wednesday (his first time attending in several years), and he does not have problems going about his daily life as a result of the injury.

Tanigawa launched the manga on Square Enix's Gangan Online website in 2012, and the 11th compiled book volume shipped last March. The 12th volume is slated to ship on February 22. Yen Press is publishing the manga in North America, and the 11th volume shipped in December.

The slice-of-life gag comedy centers around Tomoko Kuroki, a girl who thought she would be popular when she went to high school. However, she was in for a rude awakening because cruel reality is not like the otome games (romance games for female players) she plays.

The television anime adaptation of the manga premiered in 2013, and Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired. A prequel original anime DVD also bundled with the manga's seventh volume in 2014.
