Aya Ueto Returns to Detective Conan After 12 Years as Guest Cast in 22nd Film

The official website for the Detective Conan anime films revealed two new guest cast members for Meitantei Conan: Zero no Shikkōnin (Detective Conan: Zero's Executioner), the 22nd film in the series, on Tuesday. Aya Ueto will play the character Kyōko Tachibana (seen below), a lawyer representing Ran's father Kogorō Mori. This will be the second time Ueto appears in the Detective Conan franchise; in 2006 she played herself in the television anime's 437th episode.
Daikichi Hakata plays Fumikazu Haba (seen below), a deceased judicial intern and former colleague of Tachibana. Tachibana once worked with him at the same law firm.
The film opens in Japan on April 13.
Yuzuru Tachikawa (Mob Psycho 100, Death Parade) is directing the film. The film is a sequel of the series' 20th film, Detective Conan: The Darkest Nightmare, and centers on Tōru "Zero" Amuro. Police chief Hyōe Kuroda, who is rumored to be Rum in the Black Organization, will also make his first appearance in a film for the franchise.
In the film's story, there is a sudden explosion at Tokyo Summit's giant Edge of Ocean facility. The shadow of Tōru Amuro, who works for the National Police Agency Security Bureau as Zero, appears at the site. In addition, the "triple-face" character is known as Rei Furuya as a detective and Kogorō Mōri's apprentice, and he is also known as Bourbon as a Black Organization member. Kogorō is arrested as a suspect in the case of the explosion. Conan conducts an investigation to prove Kogorō's innocence, but Amuro gets in his way.
The manga series centers on Conan Edogawa, the alias of detective Shinichi Kudo, whose body shrunk after being poisoned at the beginning of the story. Together with detective Kogorō Mōri and his daughter Ran, Conan helps the police solve difficult mysteries.
The Detective Conan manga has been running since 1994, and last August it became the first Weekly Shonen Sunday series to publish its 1,000th chapter. The manga has spawned an ongoing anime series, and a yearly anime film series. The 21st film in the series, Meitantei Conan Kara Kurenai no Love Letter (Detective Conan: Crimson Love Letter), opened last April, and earned the highest opening weekend record for the franchise. Aoyama's various manga series have a combined 200 million copies in print worldwide.
