Elex Media Licenses Ema Toyama's Kami Kami Kaeshi Manga

Supernatural manga about girl who holds gods in her hair ran from 2010-2016

Indonesian publisher Elex Media Komputindo announced on Thursday that it has licensed Ema Toyama's Kami Kami Kaeshi manga.

The manga centers on Mashiro, a girl trapped by the circumstances of her family. She is a member of the cadet branch of the Shintō family. The descendants of the main branch of the family are traditionally given an ability called "Kami Kami Kaeshi," which allows them to shelter tired gods within their hair until they have grown and the gods have recovered their strength. When the time comes to pass down the ability, it passes down to Mashiro instead of the designated heir. For this reason, Mashiro has lived in a small room in the Shintō family since childhood, forbidden from cutting her hair. Only her servant Hayate attends her, and she knows of the outside world only through books and her barred window. When Mashiro turns 16, she finds the seal to her room unlocked, and from her hair emerges the fire god, whom she calls "Hinokagu."

Toyama launched the manga in Kodansha's Nakayoshi Lovely magazine in 2010, before moving it to Nakayoshi, where it ended in 2016. Kodansha published four compiled book volumes for the manga.

Toyama's Missions of Love (Watashi ni xx Shinasai!) manga is inspiring a live-action series and film adaptation that will debut this spring and summer, respectively. Toyama launched the award-winning manga in Kodansha's Nakayoshi magazine in 2009, and ended it in June 2015. Kodansha published 19 compiled book volumes for the manga. Toyama will launch a new manga titled Watashi ni xx Shinasai! Couple-hen (Missions of Love - Couple Arc) on March 2.

M&C! previously published Toyama's Simple Love (Jimikoi) manga in October 2016.
