Entertainment One to Produce Street Fighter: World Warrior TV Series

Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist team to executive produce

Deadline reported on Friday that Entertainment One will develop, produce, and finance a new Street Fighter television series. The team behind Machinama's Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist web series — Joey Ansah, Jacqueline Quella, and Mark Wooding — are executive producing.

The series will be based on the Street Fighter II: The World Warrior game, and will focus on Ryu, Ken, Guile and Chun-Li. Machinima announced a Street Fighter: World Warrior live-action project in 2014, with a planned launch date of 2015 or 2016, but it has not yet been released. The official Facebook page for the Assassin's Fist web series mentioned in March 2016 that World Warrior has been in development since Assassin's Fist was completed, but the staff were hoping to create the series as a "high budget premium US Cable TV show."

Ansah (Street Fighter: Legacy) helmed the Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist web series and co-wrote the script with Christian Howard. Machinima released the series on its YouTube channel in May 2014, and Funimation licensed the series for release in North America. Funimation released the series on Blu-ray Disc in October 2014.

The series, which was set in Japan, is a coming of age story for Ryu and Ken, but it also featured Gōken, Gōki/Akuma, and Gōtetsu. Togo Igawa (The Last Samurai, 47 Ronin) played Gōtetsu, while Mike Moh (Kamen Rider: Dragon Knight, School Dance) played Ryu. Akira Koieyama (Blood: The Last Vampire, 47 Ronin) played Gōken, and Shōgen (Kaiji: The Ultimate Gambler, The Shadow Inside) played young Gōken. Gaku Space (Shake It Up!, How I Met Your Mother) played young Gōki. Mark Killeen (The Game of Thrones, The Dark Knight Rises) played Mr. Masters. Ansah and Howard played Akuma and Ken, respectively. Hal Yamanouchi (The Wolverine, Push) played Senzō.

The staff also produced Machinima's live-action Street Fighter: Resurrection series, a prologue to Street Fighter V. The four-episode series debuted on Verizon's go90 streaming service in March-April 2016.
