Steins;Gate 0, a follow-up game to the original Steins;Gate game, was initially announced in March 2015 with an anime adaptation in the works, but no details on the anime had been announced since. A previous rebroadcast of the original Steins;Gate anime took an alternate route toward the Steins;Gate 0 story in December 2015, the same month the game debuted in Japan. Production company MAGES announced the upcoming game Steins;Gate Elite, a major update of the original Steins;Gate game with new elements, last May. The game replaces scenes in the original visual novel with scenes from the anime adaptation. The game was originally slated for March 15 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, and Nintendo Switch in Japan, but it has been delayed to a general 2018 release date. Spike Chunsoft will release Steins;Gate Elite in North America and Europe for the PS4, Switch, and PC via Steam this year.

Set in Tokyo's Akihabara district, the original game follows Rintarō Okabe as he changes fate by traveling between different world lines. The game inspired a 2011 television anime, as well as the Steins;Gate – The Movie – Load Region of Déjà Vu sequel, and the Steins;Gate 0 game. The game franchise has more than 1 million copies in print.
