Anime Limited Acquires Tokyo Ghoul:re and Lupin the Third Part 5

posted on by Andrew Osmond
Both new series will be released on home video, and simulcast on Crunchyroll to the UK and Ireland

Anime Limited has announced that it has acquired Tokyo Ghoul:re, and also announced that it has acquired Lupin the Third: Part 5. Both are new series beginning this spring, and will be eventually released on home video by Anime Limited.

Anime Limited also confirmed that both series will be simulcast to UK and Ireland via Crunchyroll. It has also been confirmed that the first episode of Lupin the Third: Part 5 will be simulcast on Tuesday April 3 at 7.30 p.m. In addition, the previous series Lupin III: Part IV will also have a home release from Anime Limited.

Viz Media is releasing the Tokyo Ghoul:re sequel series, and it describes the first volume:

Haise Sasaki has been tasked with teaching Qs Squad how to be outstanding investigators, but his assignment is complicated by the troublesome personalities of his students and his own uncertain grasp of his Ghoul powers. Can he pull them together as a team, or will Qs Squad first assignment be their last?

Odahiro Watanabe (Soul Buster, assistant director on Super Lovers 2, Valkyrie Drive: Mermaid) is replacing Shuhei Morita as director for the anime at Pierrot. Pierrot+ is credited for animation production assistance. Chūji Mikasano is returning from the first two Tokyo Ghoul anime to provide series composition and write the scripts. Atsuko Nakajima (Ranma ½, You're Under Arrest, Haven't You Heard? I'm Sakamoto) is replacing Kazuhiro Miwa as character designer.

TMS Entertainment USA described Lupin the Third: Part 5:

Lupin the Third: Part 5 finds our renowned thief and his associate Daisuke Jigen hiding out in an apartment in modern-day rural France, which provides the backdrop for this latest series. This time around Lupin is drawn into the world of technology via a site on the so-called “dark web” known as Marco Polo – a go-to place for undesirables to purchase illegal items from drugs to firearms. Can Lupin successfully infiltrate a datacenter and carry out a heist to steal digital currency from this virtual realm?

It's a unique challenge, made all the more so by the presence of Ami, a mysterious hacking genius who has her own interest in Marco Polo, as well as a man who claims to know details of Lupin the 3rd's past…”

Yuichiro Yano is returning from the fourth series to direct Lupin the Third: Part 5 at Telecom Animation Film with character designer Hisao Yokobori and musical composer Yuji Ohno. Ichiro Okouchi (Code Geass, Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress) is in charge of the series scripts. Miyuki Sawashiro (Fujiko) is singing the ending theme song "Seine no Kaze ni … (Adieu)."

The new series moves the setting to modern France. While Lupin will still use classic cars and traditional guns like the Walter P38, he will also employ the Internet, mobile devices, and other digital gadgets to take on his foes.

Monkey Punch's Lupin III manga about the titular thief's escapades inspired four previous television anime series, several theatrical anime films, and a near-annual string of television anime specials. It also inspired the Lupin III: The Woman Called Fujiko Mine television anime series and live-action adaptations, including 2014's live-action film.
