The official website of Kodansha's Aoi Tori Bunko label announced on Tuesday that illustrator Kaori Fujita passed away on July 13 at 6:45 a.m. due to pancreatic cancer. She was 47 years old. The announcement said that Fujita had been battling the disease for half a year while continuing to draw. The site included the below illustration with the announcement.
Fujita most notably collaborated with author Hiroshi Ishizaki, illustrating Ishizaki's long-running Kuromajyo-san ga Tōru!! children's book series. That series inspired two television anime in 2012 and 2013. She also illustrated Ishizaki's Majo Gakkō Monogatari and Kuro Majo no Kishi Gyubaddo novels. She has collaborated with other Aoi Tori Bunko artists, such as Asami (Waka Okami ga Shōgakusei), and has illustrated Kodansha's releases of classics such as Little Women and The Secret Garden. In games, she provided the main illustrations for Suikoden V. She also illustrated Maru Yamada's Ossan ga Bijo light novel series.
