New RWBY Manga Launches on Shonen Jump+ App on December 20

Viz Media to publish manga simultaneously in English

This year's third issue of Shuiesha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine revealed on Monday that Bunta Kinami's new RWBY: The Official Manga manga will launch on the Shonen Jump+ app and website on December 20, with new chapters releasing once a month. Monty Oum and Rooster Teeth Productions are credited with the original work.

Viz Media had announced at New York Comic Con in October that it will publish the new manga as part of its Weekly Shonen Jump lineup, and the company published the manga's first chapter on November 20 for free on its website and in its digital Weekly Shonen Jump magazine.

Viz Media's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine is changing form on Monday, and will no longer be offered as a magazine. Instead, Viz Media will release individual chapters from manga in the lineup on its website and app simultaneously with Japan for free. Those with subscriptions will be able to access a back catalogue of manga chapters and series in addition to the most recent three chapters that free users can access.

Shirow Miwa drew an earlier adaptation of the RWBY web animated series in Shueisha's Ultra Jump magazine from November 2015 to February 2017. Viz Media published the manga in its English edition of Weekly Shonen Jump magazine beginning in October 2017, and also publishes the manga in print. Viz Media also publishes the RWBY manga anthology series.

The original RWBY web animated series by the late creator Monty Oum follows four girls with unique weapons and powers who are training to hunt supernatural "Creatures of Grimm."
