Gaina's Hulaing Babies 5-Minute Anime Reveals Cast, Staff, January 10 Premiere

Series centers on young girls' struggle as they aim to become Hula Girls

The official website for anime studio Gaina's (formerly Fukushima Gainax) Hulaing Babies original anime series revealed the show's main cast, staff, and January 10 premiere date on Friday. The anime will premiere on TV Tokyo on January 10 at 27:05 (effectively January 11 at 3:05 a.m.) and will air within the "AOP no Animusu" program. The show will also air on AT-X and Fukushima Chuo TV. Each episode will be five minutes long.

The cast includes:

Yoshinori Asao is directing the anime at Fukushima Gaina. Ikoma is writing the scripts, Ryōzō Ōminato is designing the characters, and F.M.F is composing the music.

Other cast members include:

The anime will center on a group of young girls and their struggle as they aim to become Hula Girls.

Fukushima Gainax announced the anime in 2016 at the "Magical Hawaiians" event in Iwaki in Fukushima Prefecture. The event was held at the Spa Resort Hawaiians, the same resort that inspired the 2006 Japanese film Hula Girls. At the time, Fukushima Gainax president Yoshinori Asao said the goal was to revitalize Iwaki and its surrounding areas with the anime.

Gainax opened Fukushima Gainax in 2015. Kinoshita Group Holdings acquired the studio in July and changed its name to Gaina.

Editors Note: ANN had previously romanized the show's title as "Flying Babies." In Japanese, the characters for "hula" in the phonetic katakana alphabet and the first two katakana characters used in the word "flying" are the same. The official website for the anime features the URL hulaingbabies.com, so we will be using Hulaing Babies as the title of the series going forward.
