Malaysian Convention Penang Anime Matsuri Will not Hold Event This Year

Convention being "moved forward" to 2020 "in conjunction with Experience Penang Year"

The official Facebook page of Malaysian anime convention Penang Anime Matsuri announced on Thursday that the event is being "moved forward" to 2020 and will not have an event this year. The announcement noted that the date was moved so that the event would be "in conjunction with Experience Penang Year."

Penang Anime Matsuri's previous event was held last year in July at the Spice Convention Center in Penang, Malaysia.

The convention is organized by events and marketing agency SOZO, the same company that handles Anime Festival Asia (AFA). Life AFA, the convention usually holds an "I Love Anisong" concert event that features live Japanese musical acts.

The Malaysian Immigration Department (Jabatan Imigresen Malaysia; JIM) recently arrested multiple cosplayers attending an anime convention on March 23 for abusing social visit passes and work permits to attend the event. The raid ended with the arrest of 11 visitors from other countries and one local man.
