Mysteria Friends dub debuts on Sunday

Sentai Filmworks announced at its panel at Anime Boston on Friday that the Cutie Honey Universe and Mysteria Friends anime are receiving English dubs.

Jessica Calvello is reprising her role as Cutie Honey in Cutie Honey Universe, most recent anime project based on Go Nagai's Cutie Honey manga. David Wald is directing the dub. An uncensored, limited-edition release will be available for pre-order on April 23.

The series premiered in April 2018 in Japan. Sentai Filmworks licensed the series, and HIDIVE streamed the anime as it aired. Sentai Filmworks describes the anime:

Based on the groundbreaking franchise that launched the “magical girl” genre and produced as part of the 50th anniversary commemorating the work of anime and manga wunderkind Go Nagai (Devilman Crybaby), Cutie Honey Universe follows Honey Kisaragi, an amazingly humanlike and fashion conscious android with the unique ability to transform her body into a wide range of outrageous yet stylish disguises, each of which comes with its own dazzling super ability. After a run-in with a sinister secret criminal cabal organization, Panther Claw, the luscious and law-abiding Honey makes it her mission to bring them down.

Akitoshi Yokoyama (Photo Kano) directed the anime at Production Reed. Natsuko Takahashi (Urahara, Yuyushiki) handled the series composition, and Syūichi Iseki designed the characters and served as chief animation director. The idol unit AŌP (Mr. Osomatsu, In Another World With My Smartphone) performed the anime's opening theme song "Ai ga Nakucha Tatakaenai" (I Can't Fight Without Love). The male artist luz performed the ending theme song "SISTER."

Cat Thomas is playing Anne, and Avery Smithhart is playing Grea in the dub of Mysteria Friends (Manaria Friends in Japan). Kyle Colby Jones is directing the dub. The full English dub will debut on HIDIVE on April 21 at 1:00 p.m. EDT. Sentai Filmworks also began streaming a dub clip on Friday.

The anime premiered on January 20 after delays. Sentai FIlmworks licensed the anime and streamed it on Crunchyroll as it aired.

The anime tells an original story set in Mysteria Academy in the kingdom of Mysteria. The story centers on the characters Anne and Grea from the "Manaria Mahō Gakuin" (Mysteria Academy in the English version) event in Cygames' Rage of Bahamut social game. In the game, Mysteria Academy is a prestigious magic school that teaches magic without discrimination to the three factions (men, gods, demons), who usually are engaged in battle with each other.

Hideki Okamoto (D.C. II: Da Capo II, Battle Girls - Time Paradox) replaced Takafumi Hoshikawa as director, and CygamesPictures replaced Studio Hibari to animate the series. Satoko Sekine (Is This a Zombie? of the Dead, Tayutama - Kiss on My Deity) replaced Hoshikawa for series composition. Minami Yoshida (chief animation director for Terraformars Revenge, Love Live! School idol project) replaced Megumi Ishihara to design the characters. Takashi Watanabe (live-action Teiichi no Kuni, Nigakute Amai films) composed the music.

Update: Dub clip added.
