Tohru Fujisawa, Shinsuke Takahashi's Shonan Seven Manga Ends in 3 Chapters (Updated)

Manga sequel to GTO: The Early Years debuted in 2014

The June issue of Akita Shoten's Shōnen Champion magazine revealed on Thursday that Tohru Fujisawa and Shinsuke Takahashi's Shonan Seven manga will end in three chapters, including the chapter published on Thursday. If there are no delays, the manga will end in the August issue on July 6.

The manga centers on Ikki Kurokami, a new student in Tsujido High School. Ikki aims to join the "Shonan Seven," the strongest seven high school students in the Shonan area, who fight in a tournament to prove who is the strongest among them. To do that, Ikki must first prove he is the strongest in his school.

Fujisawa and Takahashi launched Shonan Seven in Shōnen Champion in February 2014. Akita Shoten published the manga's 15th compiled book volume on January 8, and the 16th volume is slated for May 8.

The manga is the "true sequel" to Fujisawa's GTO: The Early Years (Shōnan Junai-gumi) manga, which ran from 1990 to 1996. Vertical published GTO: The Early Years in North America. GTO: The Early Years inspired a video anime adaptation. The manga received its own prequel, Bad Company, which inspired a live-action video in 1998.

Fujisawa recently announced that he will launch a new manga titled Re: Animal Joe on May 13. Fujisawa also plans to launch his Red Data Planet manga with co-creator Iomaru in Akita Shoten's Bessatsu Shōnen Champion magazine starting on July 12. Fujisawa had announced the manga in August 2013, with a planned launch in Kodansha's Magazine Special in December 2013. However, the manga did not launch in that magazine as planned.

Fujisawa is known for such manga as GTO, GTO: 14 Days in Shonan, Soul Reviver, Kamen Teacher, and Kamen Teacher Black, among many others.

Update: The 24th issue of Weekly Young Magazine revealed on May 13 that the Re: Animal Joe manga will run for only two chapters.
