Ibuki Opens at #2, Sadako at #4, Promare at #8 in Japan

The live-action film of Osamu Eya and Kaiji Kawaguchi's Kūbo Ibuki (Aircraft Carrier Ibuki) manga, sold 194,000 tickets and earned 246 million yen (about US$2.24 million) to rank #2 in its opening weekend. The film opened in 331 theaters in Japan last Friday, and it sold 265,070 tickets for 332,068,500 yen over its first three days. Eiga.com reports that the film is projected to earn over 1.5 billion yen (about US$14 million).

Legendary Entertainment and Warner Bros.' live-action Pokemón: Detective Pikachu film dropped from #2 to #3 in the Japanese box office rankings in its fourth weekend. The film sold 138,000 tickets for 211,320,400 yen (about US$1.92 million) over the weekend. The film has sold a total of 1.63 million tickets, and has cumulatively earned 2,355,500,500 yen (about US$20.98 million).

Sadako, the Ring horror franchise's new film, sold 118,000 tickets and earned 164 million yen (about US$1.49 million) to rank #4 in its opening weekend. The film opened in 341 theaters in Japan last Friday. Eiga.com reports that the film is aiming to earn over 1 billion yen (about US$9 million).

The live-action film of Yasuhisa Hara's Kingdom manga dropped from #3 to #5 in its sixth weekend. The film earned 153,219,800 yen (about US$1.39 million) from Friday to Sunday, and has sold a total of 3.66 million tickets, and has earned a cumulative total of 4,870,528,100 yen (about US$44 million).

Meitantei Conan: Konjō no Fist (Detective Conan: Fist of Blue Sapphire), the 23rd Detective Conan anime film, dropped from #4 to #6 in its seventh weekend. The film earned 132,052,500 yen (about US$1.20 million) from Friday to Sunday. It has sold a total of 6.71 million tickets, and has cumulatively earned 8,575,715,400 yen (about US$78.25 million)

Studio Trigger and XFlag's original anime film Promare ranked at #8 in its opening weekend. The film opened in Japan in 200 theaters last Friday.

Eiga Crayon Shin-chan Shinkon Ryokō Hurricane ~Ushinawareta Hiroshi~ (Crayon Shin-chan the Movie: Honeymoon Hurricane, Lost Hiroshi), the series' 27th film, dropped from #8 to #9 in its sixth weekend. The film earned 41,416,700 yen (about US$377,900) from Friday to Sunday, and has now earned a cumulative total of 1,916,583,400 yen (about US$17.48 million).

Touken Ranbu: THe Movie ranked out of the top 10, but earned 17,361,300 yen (about US$160,000) over the weekend for a new total of 907,902,900 yen (about US$8.2 million).

The live-action film adaptation of Homura Kawamoto and Tōru Naomura's Kakegurui - Compulsive Gambler manga dropped off the top 10 in its fourth weekend. The film still earned 14,788,800 yen (about US$134,900) from Friday to Sunday, and has earned a cumulative total of 324,444,800 yen (about US$2.96 million).

The theatrical screening of the first three episodes of the Sōkyū no Fafner THE BEYOND anime project ranked #1 in the mini-theater ranking again in its second weekend.

The anime film of Kentetsu Takamori's Buddhist book Tannishō o Hiraku (Opening the Tannishō) ranked at #3 in the mini-theater ranking in its opening weekend.
