What's Michael? Manga Gets English Collection in January

posted on by Jennifer Sherman
Dark Horse began releasing single volumes for cat comedy in 1997

Dark Horse announced on Monday that it will re-release the first six volumes of Makoto Kobayashi's What's Michael?'s manga in a collection in English in comic shops on January 29, 2020. The collection will then ship in bookstores on February 11, 2020.

The 520-page collection is titled What's Michael? Fatcat Collection Volume 1. The manga series' first six out-of-print individual volumes compiled in the collection are Michael's Album, Living Together, Off the Deep End, A Hard Day's Life, Michael's Favorite Spot, and Michael's Mambo.

Dark Horse first released the first compiled book volume of the series in English in 1997. The company released a total of 11 volumes in English.

Kobayashi's What's Michael? manga serialized in Weekly Morning from 1984 to 1989, and Kodansha released nine compiled book volumes. The episodic stories about the lives of cats inspired an original video anime (OVA) in 1985, a television anime in 1988, and a second OVA in 1988.

Kobayashi released a new illustration for the manga on the cover of Kodansha's Weekly Morning magazine in May 2017. The release marked the first new illustrations for the series in 29 years.
