Young Disease Outburst Boy Anime Reveals Video, Additional Cast

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

The official website for Chūbyō Gekihatsu Boy, the television anime of Vocaloid producer rerulili's "Young disease outburst Boy" ("Chūbyō Gekihatsu Boy") song and Minato Tonami's slice-of-life comedy novel adaptation, began streaming the second promotional video on Friday. The anime's Twitter account also revealed additional cast members.

The newly announced cast members are:
(Note: character name romanizations are not confirmed.)

  • Sayaka Senbongi as Nanako Watase
  • Taku Yashiro as Takumi Sekiya
  • Mina Katahira as Sora
  • Kenjiro Tsuda as Ossan
  • Akira Ishida as Faust

The anime will premiere in Japan on October 4. The anime will debut on Hikari TV at 10:00 p.m., then air on Tokyo MX at 10:30 p.m. The show will debut on TV Aichi, KBS Kyoto, Sun TV, and BS11 later that night, before premiering on dTV Channel on October 7 and on AT-X on October 9.

The anime stars:

  • Chinatsu Akasaki as Mizuki Hijiri
  • Daiki Yamashita as Yamato Noda
  • Shugo Nakamura as Tomoki Takashima
  • Hideaki Kabumoto as Kazuhiro Nakamura
  • Junya Enoki as Rei Tsukumo
  • Rikuya Yasuda as Futaba Mikuriya

Kazuya Ichikawa (Clean Freak! Aoyama kun, Bakugan Battle Planet, Monster Strike the Animation) is directing the anime at Studio DEEN. Midori Gotou (Hozuki's Coolheadedness all three seasons, Clean Freak! Aoyama kun) is overseeing the series scripts, and Yusa Matsuura (Clean Freak! Aoyama kun chief animation director) is designing the characters for animation. Satoshi Motoyama is directing the sound at Ai Addiction, and TECHNOBOYS PULCRAFT GREEN-FUND is composing the music. Lantis is producing the music.

The anime's five main male cast members are performing the opening song "Chūbyō Gekihatsu Boy" under the group name Minakami High School Heroes.

The story centers around Mizuki Hijiri, a high school girl who just transferred schools. At her new school, she has a fateful encounter with boys suffering from chūnibyō (adolescent delusions of grandeur). There is Noda who dreams of becoming a hero, the tragically handsome otaku Takashima who only likes 2D girls, Nakamura the supposedly "reincarnated" angel or devil, and the self-professed string-puller Tsukumo.

Videos tied to rerulili's Vocaloid songs have garnered more than 100 million views. The "Young disease outburst Boy" song inspired both a stage play and a manga series adaptation by Megumi Hazuki in 2017. Kadokawa has published five volumes of Tonami's main novel series, and four volumes of Tonami's Chūbyō Gekihatsu Boy: Seishun Shōkōgun novels. Kadokawa Shoten's online Gene pixiv service will serialize the manga adaptation of the television anime.
