posted on by Andrew Osmond
Available to subscribers, films are part of the BFI's wider season on Japanese cinema

The British Film Institute's BFI Player online platform has added five anime films for subscribers. Three of them are films directed by Mamoru Hosoda: The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (pictured), Summer Wars and Wolf Children. The other two anime are the original 1995 Ghost in the Shell and its sequel, Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence, both directed by Mamoru Oshii.

These anime films are part of a wider Japanese Cinema Season which is running on the platform. It includes "Cult" live-action films such as Nobuhiko Ōbayashi's House and Sion Shono's rap-based adaptation of the manga Tokyo Tribe. The season also includes classic Japanese films by Akira Kurosawa, Yasujiro Ozu and others.

Subscription to the BFI Player is free for 14 days, followed by £4.99 a month. It can be cancelled at any time.
