Voice Actor Jack Angel Passes Away

Prolific voice actor voiced prominent roles in Voltron, Transformers

Agency Arlene Thornton & Associates announced on Instagram on Tuesday that prolific voice actor Jack Angel passed away. He was 90.

Angel was born in 1930, and he graduated from San Francisco State University. He worked for 10 years as a promo announcer for NBC and as a disc jockey for 18 years. He has also worked as a news anchor, weatherman, director, TV and movie actor, writer, and stage performer.

Angel was a voice actor for more than 50 years, acting in works for Lucas Arts, Disney, Pixar, Warner Bros., Marvel, and more. He appeared in such films as G.I. Joe: The Movie, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Balto, A Bug's Life, The Iron Giant, Monsters, Inc. Toy Story 3, Finding Nemo, and Lilo & Stitch, among many others.

He also voiced roles in many animated series, including The Smurfs, Super Friends, Ducktales, Jem, Spider-Man, Hey Arnold!, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Ben10, Darkwing Duck, and more.

In anime, Angel voiced the roles of King Zarkon and Cossack in the Voltron television series. He also voiced many characters in the Transformers franchise such as Ultra Magnus, Omega Supreme, Astrotrain, Smokescreen, Ramjet, and more. He also voiced roles in such anime as Porco Rosso and Spirited Away.

Angel published the How to Succeed in Voice-Overs: Without Ever Losing book (pictured at right) in 2012.

In video games he reprised the role of King Zarkon for Voltron: Defender of the Universe, and also voiced Cid Sophiar in Final Fantasy XV. He also had roles in Ratchet & Clank, Killer7, Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, and World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth.
