Strategy Game The Battle Cats Tops 17 Million Downloads

“Adorably Weird” Strategy Game The Battle Cats tops 17 Million Downloads

Kyoto, 30 January 2015: The beginning of 2015 brought with it new heights for Japanese mobile game developer PONOS, who this week announced that their hit tower defense game The Battle Cats achieved a total of 17 million downloads between its English, Japanese and Korean editions. To celebrate this milestone, PONOS plans to host a variety of in-app events throughout the month of February to show appreciation for The Battle Cats' loyal users and to provide extra incentives and rewards for newcomers to the oddball strategy app.

New content and challenges appearing throughout the month will include:

 17M Downloads Breakthrough Bash : All users will receive one Rare Ticket which can be exchanged for one of dozens of available uber-powerful Cat units, plus a gift of premium Cat Food tokens each day for 17 days.
 Join the Battle! : All users who have completed the game's Tutorial stages by February 28th receive 10,000 experience points and one Rare Ticket to boost their feline army's power.
 Rising Rush Challenge : All users who have completed Chapter One of The Battle Cats by February 28th
receive three Rare Tickets to reward their determination!
 Crazed Cats Blitz Stages: A series of extra-challenging special missions appearing for only 24 hours each, where victorious users will acquire mighty Crazed versions of their favorite units as a reward.
 Monthly Event Revival: Monthly special stages from the The Battle Cats' past reappear for a limited time. A great opportunity for new and returning users to catch up on rewards and special characters they may have missed the first time around.

As PONOS staff continue to prepare new stages, characters and features for release in late winter 2015, the up-and-coming developer is hoping to welcome many new recruits to The Battle Cats while continuing to impress the grizzled veterans of the Great Cat War.

The Battle Cats is a free-to-play strategy/tower assault game which first emerged in Japan as Nyanko Daisensou (“The Great Cat War”) premiering on iOS in November 2011 with an Android app following in December of that same year. In the four months since its English-language release in September 2014, The Battle Cats has secured its place on the global mobile game rankings, reaching as high as a #2 ranking of the Google Play Store's New Free-to-Play category and earning an astounding five-star average on the App Store after 3300 reviews. Balancing outstanding visual design, hundreds of hours of challenging game content, and a massive roster of bizarre characters with distinctive strengths and skills, The Battle Cats has secured its place as the world's number one disgustingly cute cat game, bar none!
