Kenji Kamiyama and Key Staff of 'Ancien and the Magic Tablet' at AnimeFest 2017

RICHARDSON, TEXAS -- AnimeFest welcomes director Kenji Kamiyama, episode director Motonobu Hori, mechanical designer Shigeto Koyama, creature designer Christophe Ferreira, and producer Yoshiki Sakurai of the new feature film 'Ancien and the Magic Tablet' as Guests of Honor at AnimeFest 2017. A screening of the film, along with panel discussions and autograph sessions will be held during the four-day event from August 17-20, 2017.

Kenji Kamiyama was a writer and the director of the TV series Ghost in the Shell: S.A.C. and Moribito: Guardian of the Sacred Spirit. His first original work, Eden of the East, not only received critical acclaim but also created a legion of dedicated fans. In 2011, he pioneered a new 3D visual expression technique with Ghost in the Shell: SOLID STATE SOCIETY 3D. Despite releasing across only 9 screens, it became a huge success with box-office revenue topping 200 million yen (approximately $2M USD). The following year, Mr. Kamiyama directed 009 RE:CYBORG, which became his first full 3DCG work.

Motonobu Hori is well known as the character designer and animation director (eps 1, 7, and 24) of the popular rock anime series BECK: Mongolian Chop Squad. He has also participated in various capacities, such as in-betweening, key animations, storyboarding, episode directing, and animation directing, in many different anime. Mr. Hori served as a key animator on shows like Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi (eps 5, 7, 13), Paradise Kiss (eps 2-3, 8, 11-12), Gurren Lagann (ep 4), Michiko & Hatchin (ep 16), Someday's Dreamers II: Sora (eps, 1, 5, 9-10, 12), and Sword Art Online (ep 13), among others. Most recently, Mr. Hori is working again with Director Kenji Kamiyama on the upcoming theatrical release of Ancien and the Magic Tablet in which he is responsible for storyboarding and some episode directing.

Shigeto Koyama debuted in the industry with his mechanical design and guest character design work in the 2004 OVA Gunbuster 2: Diebuster. Since then he has worked on many memorable titles such as Gurren Lagann, Eureka Seven, Evangelion 1.0, 2.0, 3.0 movies, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex: Solid State Society, Moribito - Guardian of the Spirit, Inferno Cop, Kill la Kill, Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, Heroman, Michiko & Hatchin and more. He also participated in Big Hero 6 as the concept mecha designer of Baymax! In 2015, he directed his first short film Obakechan as part of Studio Khara's Japan Animator Expo project. Most recently, Mr. Koyama was responsible for the mechanical designs used in director Kamiyama's Ancien and the Magic Tablet movie.

Christophe Ferreira is a talented animator, comic artist, and designer from France who is active in the Japanese animation industry. He first worked at Telecom Animation studio under the tutelage of Yasuo Ōtsuka and Kazuide Tomonaga, two widely known and highly respected animators in the industry. After that, he branched out and had the opportunity to contribute to other projects like Bleach for Studio Pierrot, Genius Party and Crayon Shin-chan for Studio 4c, and Lupin III: The Woman Called Fujiko Mine for TMS studio, among others. In 2012, Mr. Ferreira also started a career in the French comic book industry, something he continues even today. He is currently working on his comic titled Milo's World, available in the US through iTunes. Mr. Ferreira joined Studio Signal M.D.'s Ancien and the Magic Tablet project in early 2015, and has lent his talents to the movie's graphic designs, storyboards and animation.

Yoshiki Sakurai first debuted as a film writer through Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. This led to Mr. Sakurai joining Production I.G, where he participated in the continuation, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd GIG. He was also involved in projects such as Moribito - Guardian of the Spirit, Blood+, Otogi Zoshi, and REDLINE, among others. He was introduced to producing when working as a film writer and the producer for Giovanni's Island in 2014. Currently, Mr. Sakurai is at Studio Signal M.D. serving as the producer for Cyborg 009 Call of Justice (released Nov/Dec 2016) and the upcoming feature film Ancien and the Magic Tablet.
