Japan's Masked Production Duo AmPm Become NFT Curators

Japan's masked production duo AmPm become... NFT curators?! The members showcase a favorite illustrator, and explain what they love about NFTs

Having made their debut in 2017 with the hit single ‘Best Part of Us’, finding fans all over the world, Japanese masked production duo AmPm are celebrating their fifth anniversary. To mark this milestone, AmPm are planning a range of projects for 2022, and announcing something new on the 16th of each month.

In 2021, AmPm became the first Japanese artists to release an NFT single, a limited edition release that they auctioned as their first foray into the world of NFTs and, in the future, the metaverse, utilizing emerging technology to create brand new value. And so, April 16's announcement is a new project in which they purchase NFT digital art.

AmPm have built up a ton of experience as curators of music, working with a wide variety of artists and introducing them through their songs and playlists. Building on this desire to introduce something new, they are now hoping to spread the word about NFTs and make them more approachable. This new project will introduce NFT items by artists that can be easily purchased at a reasonable price.

This time, the members of AmPm have purchased a ‘Jidori Girls’ NFT illustration from the JidoriDeployer project on NFT platform OpenSea. “Jidori” is the Japanese word for “selfie”, and ‘Jidori Girls’ is a collection of illustrations of young women taking a selfie with their smartphone. In addition to enjoying the artwork itself, AmPm felt it was a perfect match for their own aesthetic.

After AmPm announced the collaboration, they exchanged messages on Twitter with the creators of ‘Jidori Girls’, followed by excited comments from overseas fans such as “You are incredible”, “Awesome collab!” and “Super cool! Welcome to @Jidorinft and thanks for joining us @AmPm_tokyo!!!”

AmPm published a detailed blog post in English on their Medium account that explains what NFTs are, what led them to purchase a ‘Jidori Girls’ NFT, what they love about the illustration, the significance of purchasing NFTs as AmPm, and more. The blog post makes for an interesting and enjoyable read, and you can find it below.

How will the introduction of NFT items relate to AmPm's own future activities? The whole picture will become clearer with each announcement, so please look out for future updates.

AmPm profile
AmPm are a masked production duo from Japan who made a major global impact with their March 2017 debut track, 'Best Part of Us feat. Michael Kaneko'. The same year, they were the only Japanese artist to perform at Spotify On Stage, a festival in Indonesia hosted by Spotify. In addition to releasing their own original music, AmPm have remixed tracks by popular overseas artists such as AfroJack, R3HAB and Nicky Romero, along with remixes for renowned Japanese artists like Gesu no Kiwami Otome (‘Black Parade’) and MONKEY MAJIK (‘Tokyo Lights’), and production for Ken Hirai's track ‘Holic’. Collaborating with a plethora of dance-music vocalists, they have released more than 30 tracks to date. In March 2019, they were recognized at the Digital Contents of the Year 2018 / 24th AMD Award, winning the Special Jury Award. In June 2019, they produced V6's ‘All For You’.
