Tohno Miyuki, overwhelmed by her unilateral affection, drives her peer, Kanna Tadehara, to suicide. Kanna forces Miyuki to taste the pain of death over and over again, punishing her for trying to forget her. As Miyuki gradually recalls her true feelings for Kanna, their twisted love story takes numerous unexpected turns that captivate the viewers.
[Production Process]
The inspiration for my independent project came from a simple desire: "I want to create an anime that encapsulates all the things I love." When I reflected on "What do I truly enjoy?" and "What kind of anime do I wish to create?" I decided to create a horror anime showcasing the 'insane love' of yandere Yuri girls. After a year of dedication and hard work, 'LilyPhilia of Vajra Maiden' was finally born.
The character designs were driven by my desire to capture the 'kawaii' aesthetic I so admire. No character in this series can be considered a 'normal girl.' Every character has a slightly off-kilter and even maniacal world view, born from my fascination with 'insane girls.'
In addition, the artistic direction, including the background art, doesn't conform to reality. Instead, it immerses viewers in a world that's whimsical yet eerie?a fantastical realm that's charmingly cute, yet undeniably unsettling.
I also decided to conclude the story in a way that I personally love, referred to as a 'Merry Bad End.' This term, a bit of Japanese-English, signifies an ending that seems happy for the main characters, but appears tragic from an outsider's perspective. I chose this ending because I dislike 'Bad Ends' and also because I felt that a conventional 'Happy End' wouldn't be quite fitting. For 'LilyPhilia of Vajra Maiden,' I believed that a 'Merry Bad End' was the perfect conclusion.
When the project was launched and the character designs, script, and storyboards were completed, I reached out to a freelance female voice actor for voice recording. She breathed life into the characters with her wonderful performance. As for the BGM and sound effects, since I didn't have the know-how to create them from scratch, I made use of suitable sounds from publicly available audio libraries to match the worldview of this work.
