The Click
October 18th - 24th

by Brian Hanson,

Ok, this time, I'll make a solemn, completely sincere promise to all you fine, educated, well-dressed, snappy, delightfully fragrant readers. I will NOT flagrantly flaunt my newly-made website, and instead just get on with the talking about anime shows on TV. Deal? Deal.

Strait Jacket
(Sci Fi)
Monday October 20 11:00pm

The Click Pick this time is a little bit different, because this is something that I have honestly never seen. But I will check it out! So I don't honestly know if it's any good or not, but WHO CARES. It's something NEW, damn it all. The rest of this week's lineup is your standard, somewhat stagnant slate of shows that are lucky to have even the crappiest timeslots, so my hats are off to Sci Fi for picking something a little fresher than repeats or Psychic Wars.

So, Strait Jacket. It's about a "tactical sorcerer" who fights monsters. The hook? These "monsters" were once humans... UNTIL THEY USED TOO MUCH MAGIC. And became monsters somehow. Because, uh, MAGIC.

PREMIERES:

Bakugan Battle Brawlers
(Cartoon Network)
Saturday October 18 11:00am - Episode 34 "Home Sweet Home"

The Bakugan Boyz (along with Token Female and Token Character of Mixed Racial Heritage) are still in danger, until one lone Bakugan Bralwer-Man takes the fight to the real world to discover their whereabouts.

Bleach
(Adult Swim)
Saturday October 18 11:00pm - Episode 84 (Repeats Sun Oct 19 2:00am)

(YTV)
Saturday October 18 9:30pm - Episode 63

Sorry, Canada; you just wrapped up the most awesome-est story arc in Bleach thus far! So, you get a recap episode, with a tiny bit of further plot development sprinkled somewhat throughout. We here in AMERICA get... another filler-thing. But really, when watching Bleach your first instinct is to hope for some neat swordfights with crazy powers and maybe some snappy humor thrown in, which you will get. You will get that.

Blue Dragon
(YTV)
Saturday October 18 8:30pm - Episode 6 "No Good Deed Goes Unpunished"

Along their perilous journey, Shu and his buddies stop by a neighboring town for a nice, pleasant lunch. Pleasantness turns to discord, however, as they meet an improbably buxom and disconcertingly fanservice-y young lady named Bouquet, who is sexually harassed by some rude patrons, leading Shu and his White Knight Syndrome to step in and defend the lady's dubious honor.

Code Geass
(Adult Swim)
Sunday October 19 5:00am - Episode 24 "The Collapsing Stage"

Lelouch, alias "Zero" and leader of the powerful Black Knights, has succeeded in staging a massive, bloody uprising of Japanese against their evil, Aryan, "Brittanian" overlords. But what of his close companion Suzaku, fully ensconced within the ranks of the Britannian military?!? O, BARBAROUS FATE!

Dinosaur King
(CW Kids)
Saturday October 18 10:00am - Episode 32 "Falls Alarm!"

Just as an aside; One time a friend and I were in a Gameworks and I swear that we poured more money into the companion Dinosaur King / Love & Berry arcade machines than anything else they had there. Why this is, I have no idea. We became obsessed, over the span of about an hour and a half, of finding either the raddest or the most retarded-looking cards the machines would spit out. My friend got a bitchin' Stegosaurus; I got a sensible but stylish blue summer dress. We left shortly after the sad realization of this fact officially set in. THE END

Ghost Slayers Ayashi
(ImaginAsianTV)
Wednesday October 22 10:00pm - Episode 12 "Howling at the Moon" (Repeats Thu Oct 23 2:30am, 7:30pm)

The ominously-named "Killing Stone" is put to use to lure rampaging "Youi" away from the innocent, and one of the characters faces a tough moral dilemma; kill a friend, or live a fugitive from the law? Oh, feudal Japan! You so crazy antiquated with your justice system.

Hell Girl
(IFC)
Tuesday October 21 8:00pm - Episode 4 "Silent Cries" (Repeats Tue Oct 21 11:00pm, Fri Oct 24 11:30pm, Sat Oct 25 2:30am)

The aptly-named Hell Girl is summoned from her dank pit of darkness and the wailing souls of the damned to investigate the death of a beloved... dog. Yep! Seems a veterinary assistant done "screwed the pooch" if I might be allowed to make a lame joke. Wait, I'm not? Crap.

Mai Hime
(ImaginAsianTV)
Wednesday October 22 8:00pm - Episode 12 "The Smile of an Angel" (Repeats Thu Oct 23 1:30am, 6:00pm)

The EVIL Searrs organization has kidnapped one of Mai's friends! So Mai and her other non-kidnapped friends set out to rescue her, because kidnapping is way grody. And lame.

Moribito - Guardian of the Spirit
(Adult Swim)
Sunday October 19 5:30am - Episode 8 "The Swordsmith"

Balsa needs a new spear, but the weaponsmasterysmithyguy is not convinced that Balsa did not ACTUALLY kill Prince. Changing trends in the music industry, she argues, as well as Prince's immense hubris, are what killed Prince. But Prince can come back, if he so wishes.

Naruto
(Cartoon Network)
Saturday October 18 10:30pm - Episode 201 "Multiple Traps: Countdown to Destruction"

(YTV)
Saturday October 18 8:00pm - Episode 155 "The Dark Creeping Clouds"

Here we go, guys! Only 20 MORE EPISODES TO GO until Naruto's filler episodes are over! Completely!!! Granted this would be a whole lot quicker if the Cartoon Network were still burning through them at two episodes a week, but evidently they couldn't keep that crazy pace up. Alas. Canada, meanwhile, still has 66 more of 'em. Hey, maybe your new "Prime Minister" can help! Not that I understand much about Parliamentary Government, but I do own no fewer than four George Clinton and P-Funk albums, which I think counts.

Oh, uh: Naruto and Shikamaru try to out-trap the "Trap Master" and in Canada Naruto hopes that his recently defeated foe is, in fact, defeated.

Planetes
(ImaginAsianTV)
Wednesday October 22 9:30pm - Episode 12 "A Modest Request" (Repeats Thu Oct 23 2:00am, 7:00pm)

In a brave stance against the monolithic tobacco industry, the aggravated ISPV7 crewmate, Fee, desperately needs a cigarette, which has all kinds of ramifications; such as becoming unwittingly tangled up in a TERRORIST PLOT. Which is what will totally HAPPEN, aside from cancer.

Pokémon
(Cartoon Network)
Saturday October 18 9:30am - Episode 545 "The Thief That Keeps on Thieving"

Ash and pals take a moment to reflect upon everything they've accomplished, and how they eerily haven't aged in some 10 years, by helping a brand-new Pokémon trainer capture his first Pokémon.

Scrapped Princess
(ImaginAsianTV)
Wednesday October 22 9:00pm - Episode 12 "The War Song of the Two Princesses" (Repeats Thu Oct 23 6:30pm)

Pacifica and her motley crew of protectorates face off against ANOTHER Princess with strange powers, and her especially magically powerful comrades. It's like, who's gonna win this win? WHO WILL WINS?

Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's
(CW Kids)
Saturday October 18 10:30am - Episode 6 "The Facility, Part 1"

Yusei is rounded up by FASCIST RENT-A-COPS, man, and he's taken to a shady holding cell. but apparently they don't frisk you for cards or anything, because he meets and promptly duels a man with a "Hidden Treasure" deck. I'm going to assume that means he's good.

Zatch Bell
(YTV)
Saturday October 18 9:00pm - Episode 98 "The Decisive Battle in the In-Between World!"

Zatch and Brago need to team up and let bygones be bygones in order to defeat the evil Maestro. Maestro being a villain of sorts, who Machiavellian-ly manipulates people to his own sadistic ends, or at least as sadistic as children's television allows.

MOVIES/FEATURES

Pokémon: The First Movie
(Cartoon Network)
Saturday October 18 4:00pm

Jin-Roh - The Wolf Brigade
(Starz Edge)
Tuesday October 21 8:00am

Pokemans! And slow-moving futuristic adaptations of classic fairy tales! The anime movie that has made the most money in American theaters ever, and a movie that probably made only 100 bucks by playing in a theater in Portland for two days!

That's about all I have to say that isn't some politically charged screed or a large string of curse words directed towards people I irrationally hate, so until next week! Adieu!
