5 Centimeters Per Second (movie) Excellent Slow paced, but breathtakingly beautiful in terms of the animation, music, and the way it handles the subject matter (separation).
Akira (movie) Excellent (dub), Masterpiece (sub) A classic that inspired so much, and it's the most goddamn beautiful anime movie for its era. Gripping and thought provoking. The sub is slightly better.
Attack on Titan (TV) Excellent This show blindsided me and blew me away. Totally amazing, on equal terms with the manga which I read afterwards. I can't wait for the next season.
B Gata H Kei - Yamada’s First Time (TV) Good This show is admittedly pretty stupid, but the dialogue and characters are actually pretty hilarious. Fun to watch if you don't take it seriously.
Baccano! (TV) Masterpiece Once it picks up (after the first episode), this show is friggin' awesome. So cool and interesting. I have a hard time finding a better 13-episode series.
BECK: Mongolian Chop Squad (TV) Excellent Captures an extremely realistic atmosphere. The characters all feel like real people and it doesn't shy away from social issues or crudeness. Best anime I've seen about music by far.
Berserk: The Golden Age Arc I - The Egg of the King (movie) Excellent The 3d is a little weak here, but still a great start to a truly epic story.
Berserk: The Golden Age Arc II - The Battle for Doldrey (movie) Masterpiece The art really picks up here and the story is just fantastic. Couldn't stop watching.
Berserk: The Golden Age Arc III - The Advent (movie) Masterpiece The amazingly brutal and brutally amazing conclusion to the Golden Age Arc. I was blown away as a first time Berserk watcher. The movie looks great and the story is unparalleled.
Castle in the Sky (movie) Excellent A classic. The plot is a little drier than some of Miyazaki's other epics, but it's still a terrific watch.
(The) Cat Returns (movie) Good This one didn't leave much of an impression on me. It was good, but strange, and forgettable compared to the more famous Ghibli flicks.
A Certain Scientific Railgun (TV) Very good A very unique and fresh show with a lot of things to show off. Some story elements feel a bit recycled, but this is still very strong from start to finish.
Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion (TV) Masterpiece Love this show! Has the drama of Death Note but it never slows down. Great political intrigue, the human element, humor, and robot battles that are spectacular.
Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2 (TV) Masterpiece The beginning episode is confusing, but once you pass that point it just gets awesome again. The terrific, spine-tingling conclusion to the series. Of particular note is how Suzaku evolves into a much more interesting character.
Cowboy Bebop (TV) Masterpiece True animated art. This is amazing.
Darker than Black (TV) Excellent Supremely awesome show featuring people with special powers.
Deadman Wonderland (TV) Decent Strong setup but weak execution and poor ending. Still it was enjoyable to watch. It really just makes me want to read the manga though, all in all.
Death Note (TV) Excellent The best thriller/suspense anime that I've ever seen. Slows down in the middle but that's its only detriment.
Digimon: The Movie (U.S. movie) Decent I enjoyed it when I was a kid!
Disgaea (TV) Good A fair adaptation of the video game into anime form. Some parts feel a little trite, but this is still a very fun watch.
Eden of the East (TV) Good The show is really interesting and nice on the eyes, but suffers from poor pacing. I've heard the movies are better, so maybe I should check them out too.
Elfen Lied (TV) Excellent A little overbearing, but absolutely beautiful. Only anime to ever make me cry.
Excel Saga (TV) Excellent Hands down the funniest series I've ever watched. This is so worth watching over and over again.
Fate/stay night (TV) Very good A very entertaining and intriguing fantasy/thriller type anime. Unique. I might rewatch sometime.
FLCL (OAV) Very good Great animation and impossible to look away from for multiple reasons. Inspired so much!
Fruits Basket (TV 1/2001) Decent Funny, but not nearly as good as the manga, esp. the ending which frankly sucks.
Fullmetal Alchemist (TV) Good Starts promising, but becomes garbled once it diverts from the manga's story. Kind of a neat story but Brotherhood is much more worth watching.
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (TV) Masterpiece This is by far one of the best shows I have ever watched in my life, and the dub is terrific on top of that. The story is so unique, the characters so full of life, and the battles so intense!! I'm definitely going to rewatch this sometime and make someone else watch it too.
Fullmetal Alchemist: The Sacred Star of Milos (movie) Good Pretty great for a spin off movie.
Gantz (TV) Good Really really gritty and violent, which is a plus for me, but the main character is a total douche. Still worth watching.
GATE (TV) So-so Decent premise, but the execution is slow and cliched... much weaker than it could have been.
(The) Girl Who Leapt Through Time (movie) Excellent This film feels very unique which is amazing considering its modernity. I loved the story and characters. Was a little disappointed at the end for some reason, but it was still fantastic. Would watch again.
Girls Bravo (TV) So-so The first harem anime I watched on my own. Not very memorable, but gets a few laughs.
Grave of the Fireflies (movie) Very good I saw this when I was young so I can't remember much - due for a rewatch.
Howl's Moving Castle (movie) Excellent A magical movie that delights the senses. The ending felt a little botched, but other than that it's a masterpiece.
K-ON! (TV) Good The most cheerful thing I've ever watched. A little bias from me here, as it helped me through a hard time, but I actually liked this a fair amount, for being a slice-of-life anime.
Kaiba (TV) Masterpiece This show knocked me off my feet. While a bit confusing at first, its beautiful world (Astra Boy meets Dr, Suess?) and stories within completely absorbed me. So many intricate details that it's worth many rewatches. Gorgeous, haunting soundtrack... I keep coming back to this.
Kiki's Delivery Service (movie) Excellent This is one of the Miyazaki films that I haven't watched in the longest time. I remember it being incredibly good, must rewatch.
Kill la Kill (TV) Very good So much fun! The sound design and visual presentation of this show are top-notch. I had a blast watching it. I'd rate it a bit higher if the story didn't lose some steam in the 2nd half.
KonoSuba – God’s blessing on this wonderful world!! (TV) Good One of the funnier new anime in 2016. Unfortunately, the humor is really the only good part about it, though it does carry the show heavily enough to make it worth watching. Fun for a group of friends!
Love Hina (TV) Good The classic harem anime. Quite funny and well worth watching. Also shows a fair bit of nice character development.
(The) Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (TV) Very good Popular for a reason - quirky and hilarious. Some parts of the first episode had me rolling in tears. As a whole it's pretty strong. Not sure about the sequels yet.
Millennium Actress (movie) Masterpiece This movie is beautiful!!! I started out a little skeptical but was quickly pulled into the magical world which blended film, history, and real life together. I cared about the characters, and felt really sad about how it all ended. Wonderful film.
Mushi-Shi (TV) Excellent This is the most serene and peaceful full-length anime to exist. Really makes you ponder life. A seriously cathartic watch.
My Neighbor Totoro (movie) Masterpiece This movie is my childhood. So wonderful and fantastical, it will be sure to charm anyone who watches. I could never get tired of it.
Nadia - The Secret of Blue Water (TV) Very good Not many people have heard of this, but it's actually a pretty awesome adventure show with well-rounded characters. Too bad there's multiple dubs, and the only good one is only on my VHS tapes...
Naruto (TV) Good An original series that had me hooked for a long time. It gets really long-winded somewhere along the line, but is very good for what it's worth.
Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (movie) Masterpiece The film with the best and most interesting creatures in Miyazaki's collection. It's beautiful and heart wrenching and a lot of fun to watch. Great film.
Negima! (TV) Good A bit of a far-fetched series with some unnecessary fanservice, but under the service it's actually a very sweet and interesting show. Enough that I watched it twice.
Neon Genesis Evangelion (TV) Excellent Classic for a reason. The story and battles are riveting and psychological aspects are fascinating.
One Punch Man (TV) Excellent Waaaaaaaay better than one would expect. ONE PUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUNCH!!!!!!!
Outlaw Star (TV) Very good This show was super fun, but I couldn't help but feel that they lost some steam after making the very beginning of the show. Still, really entertaining.
Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt (TV) Good This is probably one of the weirdest shows I've ever watched, bar none. The episodes are pretty hit-or-miss, but it's seriously entertaining. The villians are also terrific, and have kickass themesongs. The soundtrack is definitely worth mentioning.
Paprika (movie) Masterpiece Beautiful, beautiful film. I'd watch this over and over again. Love the theme of lucid dreaming.
Paranoia Agent (TV) Excellent A crazy show, but overwhelmingly interesting to watch. I found the ending a little disappointing, but the journey was terrific.
Perfect Blue (movie) Masterpiece Definitely the best animated horror film I've ever seen... and one of the best horror in general. This film is incredibly original and disturbing. Darren Aranofsky was clearly inspired by this when he made Black Swan, but was too much of a douche to admit it.
Ping Pong (TV) Excellent Wow! Way better than I expected for my first "sports" anime. It's all about the characters here and their progression to becoming better people. Soundtrack and animation are delightful.
Pokémon 2000 - The Movie (movie 2) Decent This pokemon movie was rather forgettable, outside of the battles with the Legendary Birds.
Pokémon 3 - The Movie (movie 3) Very good This movie... was awesome. Seriously, it's by far the best pokemon film. WAY darker than the others, and it totally makes the movie better for it.
Pokémon 4Ever (movie 4) So-so Meh. Don't remember much about this, which speaks to its memorability.
Pokémon: Mewtwo Returns (special) Decent The story in this one was fun. It was neat seeing Mewtwo back and a new member of Team Rocket.
Pokémon: The First Movie (movie 1) Decent The one that started them all. It wasn't bad.
Pom Poko (movie) Good The strangest Ghibli film I've had the pleasure to watch. I'm still not sure what to think of it.
Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea (movie) Excellent This film is so charming. Though it's really geared towards kids, it can still be vastly enjoyed by adults. I had a splendid time seeing it in theaters and would love to see it again.
Porco Rosso (movie) Excellent I've only seen this once, but I REALLY need to rewatch it. This is surprisingly one of the best I've seen, but I need another viewing before I can judge it to be a 10/10.
Princess Mononoke (movie) Masterpiece My favorite Miyazaki film. Gets everything right. Action, romance, and kinda creepy. <3
Psycho-Pass (TV) Excellent One of the best dark crime anime I've seen. Lots of twists make this show incredibly intense and gripping. An easy anime to recommend to those looking for drama.
Redline (movie) Very good One of the most fun anime films I've ever seen! The action is gripping, the characters are a riot, and the music is fantastically intense. And it's so... shiny.
Samurai Champloo (TV) Masterpiece An absolutely terrific blend of artistry and storytelling, kind of like Cowboy Bebop. Seen it a few times now. The episode where Mugen almost drowns was life changing in its beauty.
Scrapped Princess (TV) Excellent This carries some weird concepts, but it's actually done amazingly well. Very relatable characters for a sci-fi/fantasy show. Beautiful fantasy landscapes. This is hard to describe but it's really good. :]
Serial Experiments Lain (TV) Excellent MINDFUCK ALERT! This is a show to watch if you're feeling really philosophical, or high on drugs. It's definitely worth seeing at least once... it's like a strange dream.
Shiki (TV) Excellent PERFECTLY portrays vampires. Genuinely unsettling, depressing, and interesting with good characters to boot. Only complaint is the hairstyles... but all the other art is great too.
Shuffle! (TV) Good A good-looking harem anime with some interesting creepy backstory. Has a bit too much filler, but gets really good near the end, esp. since the main guy actually CHOOSES someone...
Spirited Away (movie) Masterpiece One of the most fantastic animated fantasy films out there, other than Princess Mononoke. Many memorable scenes in this movie, and some of the most unique characters that Miyazaki has created. I especially like "No-Face". Will watch anytime.
Summer Wars (movie) Very good Basically a better version of the Digimon Movie. Actually, that's precisely what it is, since the creator wanted to make this movie when he was making Digimon instead. But yeah, it's really nicely animated and a fun movie for the family.
(The) Tatami Galaxy (TV) Excellent Another extremely unique and fantastic anime by Masaaki Yuasa. The show arguably is never boring with its whip-smart, fast-paced dialogue and pacing. Each episode is very distinct. Callbacks and humor are clever. Did I mention the dialogue? This is one of the first shows where I actually went back and replayed conversations. Awesome stuff.
Tenchi in Tokyo (TV) Excellent The weakest of the three main Tenchi series, but still incredibly entertaining. The new characters are a bit strange but this maintains the spirit of Tenchi.
Tenchi Muyo! (OAV 1/1992) Excellent A seriously funny classic fantasy-harem-comedy. These characters will only cause riotous laughter from start to finish. Terrific dub.
Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki (OAV 2/1994) Excellent (see Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki (OAV 1/1992))
Tenchi Universe (TV) Excellent This is my favorite of the three main Tenchi series. With Kiyone as Mihoshi's new comic foil, this ensemble of characters is among my favorite, ever. One of the best comedies out there, and probably the best harem show.
Tokyo Godfathers (movie) Excellent A truly original, fun, and heartwarming drama!
Trigun (TV) Excellent A classic that is both entertaining in the action and philosophical sense.
Ultra Maniac (TV) Decent A nice fluffy fantasy/romance show. Some of the main characters are a bit bland, but this is still fun to watch if you're into something light.
Umineko - When They Cry (TV) Very good A trifle confusing, but almost as entertaining as Higurashi. Fans of the visual novel will cry foul though...
When They Cry - Higurashi (TV) Masterpiece My favorite anime hands down. Intrigue, terror, gore, madness, mystery, depression, resolution.
When They Cry - Kai (TV) Masterpiece The amazing resolution to the setups in the first season. Every single plot thread woven together.
When They Cry - Rei (OAV) Good A bit unnecessary, but still entertaining.
Whisper of the Heart (movie) Good I wasn't too enthused by the characters in this one, but maybe it was just the dub and the strange song choices that they made for the main character to sing. She shouldn't be singing about "her home West Virginia" when she's Japanese. Still, the movie was good. I'd see it again if just to get more opinions on it.
